The 2L will be 4.5 ratio and the 3L will be 4.3 ratio if it is still standard.

If you check the trans/axle code on the compliance plate you can work out what ratio diffs your running
Provided no-one has already changed them from the original factory ratios
Codes should be the same for the same ratios regardless of what year the vehicle is
Theres a list of axles codes on http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20Inf ... ations.htm

If its G252 for the transaxle code its an open 4.5ratio which was pretty standard for the 2L's.

I've got 4.5 diffs standard in my LN166R 2003 3L (2.8litre) Hilux

But then again my Lux was designed for a different market region

You kiwi's must be too rough on them and keep busting 'em :P
400 bucks eh. Dont worry some wreckers over here are charging that or more too for hilux diffs too.
I've got a complete 4.8 diff, 10 bolt for sale (no axle housing etc). What are they asking over there for them?

ive been throw 2 diff last 6 mouths and that was with the bloody thing parked up lol
hard to say depends if anyone needs them the demand for 4.8s is to high for seacond hand ones now and there are chromoly crown wheels and pinion avalible quite cheap but u should still get 300-400 depending on lsd or open
