Looking at purchasing a GU 4.2 td6 wagon to set up for
touring/camping etc.A few friends have said you
cant go past an auto for a tourer.I have not had any
experience with autos in 4x4's so my question is -
What are the pro's and con's between auto and manual,
and your own preference?? Thanks guys.

by td6 what do you mean 4.2 or 2.8, because the 4.2 is manual only 3l is a time bomb not sure about the 2.8 some say there ok some say there like the 3l..
auto is better for 4wding will only let you down on decents as they have very little engine braking but then again depends what you like best i prefer manual..

im only aware of the gq n/a having an auto box, im sure if you had the money you could hook up an auto box behind it but the 4.2s are a very torquey engine and dont require much gear changes if you drive them right.
my brother has just the turbo 4.2 GU and loves it he previously had the 3l in auto.
i own a 4.2 gq n/a and its requires very little effort compared to my 2.5ltd paj i can just leave it in 4th and go slow
comes down to what you prefer to drive tho? if you want a auto 4.2td without making it maybe a landcruiser? pretty sure they do it most probably going to be an ifs truck

auto v manual
for touring you are better off going manual because the auto will use mord juice
autos are better off road for crawlability but touring wise a manual will save you money and it really isnt that hard to change gears, also being intercooled turbo diesel 4.2 you could almost put it in 5th off the lights when leaving the city and not worry till tou get back.
