Fuel tank expansion tanks

Post by PJ.zook »

I just bought a Vitara SWB EFI tank to go in my Sierra for the 1.6 conversion, but im curious, it doesnt have an expansion tank like my old sierra tank did.
I assume you still do need one so fuel can expand after you have filled the tank chockers for that long trip into wilderness? How can i adapt one in if needed, maybe run the small breather to an expansion tank, then back down to tank and onto chassis rail to run up front to carbon canister or whatever?

Also, do you need to run same carbon canister that came with engine, can i use the sierra carby carbon canister with the efi engine?

I've got an efi vitara swb tank for my conversion too PJ. Do you want me to take some pics of the setup to see if you can replicate it?

Otherwise my old sierra tank didn't have an expansion tank...I think you would be ok without it but would just need to be careful about blowout when you are filling it right up...

I've actually been thinking about taking mine off as I will get the tank another 1.5inchs higher without it.

Yeh some pics would be good. I wouldnt put the expansion tank ontop of the tank though, i would keep it in the stock zook position on the filler neck inside cab.

I'm not running an expansion tank and it can be a PITA, when I fill it right up then park on an angle it drains some fuel.

In the fuel system diagram i have for the Baleno, it lists a Tank Pressure Control Valve which sits between the EVAP canister and the fuel tank breather, is this just a simple one way valve?
