How much?
Hey guys, Ive found a Hilux. Its a 2.8 diesel dual cab with winch bar, 2" lift and 31" all terrains. Its done 214 thousand k's and looks great. The guy is asking 11 grand, which I thought was a bit steep. I offered him 7 grand, he laughed at me. So what are they worth?
Hey Bud,
I bought a 2.8L Diesel Single Cab Luxxy with 31" AT's, 2"OME Suspension Lift, with a shitty front bar for $8,500 done 236,000. I thought price. I'm selling it now for around $10,000 - $11,000 with some good mods!
I think that Duel Cab you were looking at isn't that over priced.. If i was to buy one i'd be looking with those mods for around $9,000.

On closer inspection, Its got 2 blown tough dog shocks and leaking hub seals. The guy said he would fix them but I never trust caryards to do good quality work. Got him down to $9000 and he chucked in 12 months rego. Im going to push for $8500 and I would get the new shocks myself. Also There was a bit of blowback in the engine. I put the oil cap over the oil filler and it shock around but didnt shoot off. When I put my hand over the opening my hand got a bit of a coating. From what ive read that is fairly normal?
hub seals are about $200 to fully rebuild the front end.
Shocks are $150 a corner for good ones.
Grab it for $9000, you wont find a low km LN106 for that price often! most are floating around 11-12K

2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
i would be checking to see where else there is rust if thats visible- things like bottom of wheel arches and under the floor where the body bolts are- under plastic plugs.Grimey wrote:i saw a 2.8 stock with 150km and a bull bar for 10.5 but it had about a 10cm strip of rust on the diagonal part of the front door sill, then a bit more down the bottom of the sill. would you guys stay away from it?
If its just rust from a dodgy repair, there are lots and lots of hilux's in wreckers with good doors!
FWIW- i got offered 16K for my LN106.
But thats got a 3.0TD, dual lockers, long range tank, winch, bar, yadiyadiyada...
Turned him down!

They do hold their price quite well if they are tidy. I bought mine last year , single cab, no mods, very straight with only 148,000 km on it for $10,500.
There are alot of rust buckets around, check under the front kick panels on both sides, as my old one had a bit of rust under there. Also check up under the dash on the driver's side.

i got 265/75R16 BFG AT's to fit on my 2" lifted lux, but they were on prado offset rims and scrubbed like a mofo on the rear- and its chassis they were hitting too!Evski wrote:Thanks for the tips guys. One last noob question, will 33" muddies fit with a 2" lift or will it need more. I have a set of Nankang Mudstar's (measure 32"). I dont mind getting the grinder out and would prefer not to body lift or shackle lift.
Legit 33's will scrub really badly without another 2" of body lift

i had a look at that lux and its very tidy and clean etc, red dirt in the engine bay from when he took it up north for holiday with his family, and some in the tray etc, said hell throw in the cb n arial so thats good. only thing was, my mate had a look underneath for me, and said there was some oil residue on the transfer case, he asked his other mate and said it could just be the seals leaking a bit. would any mechanic be able to pick up on this problem and diagnose it?Grimey wrote:cheers for your advice, better still ive found a 2004 3l diesel with 99000k with 5 new 31" bighorns and bull bar for 16kono, so ill be checking that out tonightwith a mate. how do these 3l litres go compared to the 2.8s? and even the 99-2004 3l td
cheers
PS sorry to steal your thread, but didnt think it was worth making a whole new one:P
oil residue could be a slight leak or just old oil from previous stuff. everything cant be perfect on a 4x4. It's been off the beaten track so it's bound to have SLIGHT flaws.....
Try not to get overly picky as it will get to you....
It sounds the goods mate!
Edit; oil can seep from the transfer case through the joins if the bolts have come loose etc....
A bit of oil is nothing to be concerned about mate.

Hi all, if your wanting to know how much a car is worth when you want to buy or sell, have a look at www.redbook.com.au
This will give you the national average prices that the exact model has sold for at trade ins and also at private sales. It has helped me out a number of times. very useful.

red book can be miles out. particularly with older cars. use as a very rough guide only.
better off just looking at all the for sale sites and using that.
