is it normal for seat mounts to crack like this?

Post by jbonevia »

Hi guys,

I just picked up my first sierra on the weekend, it's a 95 hardtop, stock as a rock.

Anyway i pulled out the drivers seat today to clean underneath it and i noticed that the rear two seat mounts are quite weak and have cracked.

Someone has noticed in the past as there were a couple of big washers under each bolt to help secure the seat, but i'm not happy to leave it like this, i've attached a couple of photo's so you can see what i mean.

I did a search but couldnt find a similar post, i assume it's not an uncommon thing as the metal there is very thin - i was wondering if there was a company that made replacement mounts that i could buy and get someone to weld in? Or if not does anyone know a good place in North Sydney to take it to to have fixed up?

Cheers,
Jono.

mine was same.

welded new plate on front and sides to strengthen them.

i think mine may have been from seat been ripped out at wreckers or bolt was siezed.

Very common. Drill a small hole at the end of the cracks to stop them spreading, then weld some supporting plate to cover the cracks and strengthen the area. Check all the seat mounts too, as both passenger and driver seats tend to crack the mounts.
Welcome to sierras :finger:
