Supercharge a 3L diesel????

Post by want33s »

A search revealed nothing...
Has anyone fitted a SC14 Supercharger to a 3L Toyota diesel???

I know turbo's are readily available but I can't find one that will fit my Hiace.. Not enough room above the engine/under floor.

How much boost can a stock 3L handle RELIABLY?

Mine has been running 9psi for the last three owners. Engine is now at 240,000km.

Didn't Toyota run the 1KZ-TE (3Lt TD) overseas in the Hiace? Got to be some import parts there you could use.

1KZ-TE is a 3 litre isn't it?
Does it use the same manifolds etc as a 2.8 litre ?

Completely different motors.

You'd need a lot of stuffing around to fit one.

You can supercharge a 2.8, like any motor.

I run 11PSI & have done for 14 years on my 2.8!

there has been a hilux on here with SC 3L but room was a bit of an issue.
i've had a look at my hiace some time ago and decided against it due to lack of room.

turbo shouldn't be a problem. i think a CT20 and surf manifold will actualy fit ok (i'll see if i can find the post on it). biggest problem is gearing. the hiaces are geared very low, rpm at 100kmh is too high and right where the turbo starts to choke the motor.
a better turbo or change in diff or wheels is required.

if room is a problem then a custom manifold can place the turbo under the manifold where there is more room.

1KZ-T........not sure about. i think they changed chassi and body style when they went to those so it may not fit. early mecanical injection version is the easiest to fit. efi can be done or covert to mechanical injection.

here is a pic of a sc14 supercharger on mates 3L, they are quite big and on the hilux you cant really run a/c or anything coz you cant fit it elsewhere. dunno about hiace.Plus it is a pain in the arse, he spent months and months on it getting it right and farting around. at the end of the day its not worth it. he is now putting a turbo on.

and here is a pic of a ct20 turbo when we put it on my lux, as you can see it doesnt really use any room above the engine, just obviously around the exhaust manifold, where nothing else is anyway. pretty compact really.

Yeah sorry they were just a 1KZ-T, recall them sitting in a wrecker years back with the low profile cross over pipe. And no the bits aren't common with the 2 or 3L.

Did they ever run the 2L-T in Hiaces?

I'd love to turbo this thing, seems I'd get more poke out if it than a SC..
Have to do something soon... Diesel automatic is soooo slow.
I don't mind that top speed is 120km/h I just want to get up to 80 in less than 5 minutes!

10.8 @ 122mph is very cool.
But how does (what sounds like a)Gen 3 chev in a Mitsubishi help me supercharge the diesel in my Hiace?
