CCDA - Production Class

Post by Alison »

I would just like to put a mention out to those wishing to compete in next years production class events that may have set their car up to this years rules, they will have been changed quite a bit over recent CCDA Meetings.

It seems if you happen to miss one meeting several rules get changed under your nose.

According to the discussions last night our Carby Petrol SWB GQ Patrol will need to step up to Challenge Class because the car has Polycarb Windows (winch were in it when we bought it) and a bearing in the end of our new High Mount (to reduce wear and tear) as this will no longer make us eligible for Production Class.

Keeping in mind these were allowed when we built our car in May this year.

I think they've been referred to as performace advantages.

So in order for us to race in Production Class next year we have to buy a full set of glass windows and buy new winch parts to put this back to standard.

Personally I would rather race with Polycarb other than glass as they do not shatter in an impact, for example Shayne had a incident at Ateco when the vehicle rolled side, roof, side and the had to be rolled back on it's roof and side again to recover and the only damaged window was the windscreen, with a crack across the top, a bit of race tape and he was off to the next stage. No broken glass left on the track from the side or back windows, as all they did was flex a bit and not shatter.

So for those of you wishing to enter into production class you may want to keep a really close eye with the rule changes.

Agree 100% with you Al, thanks for the heads up as I'm slowly setting my truck up for production racing and have found it hard to keep up with the rules myself.

I have always had to compete as a challenge class truck due to a wide mouth winch with a bearing up grade. Still single motor with original coil packs. This has been in a while I thought.

Your not whining now are you Alison :D

Bearings were allowed in production class, widened drums were not.

I was at the meeting last night and NO RULES HAVE CHANGED the ONLY inclusion is that drums can have stregthened flanges and stronger brake shafts are allowed (same as last meeting that you were at.) These rule changes are only a draft for discussion to be changed on 1st jan.

Scott had a copy of the rules and they were checked.
The rules say all glass must be retained & all panels must remain steel.

we were under the impression that bearings were not allowed, somehow this has been put into the rules , Im not going to go into that. The fact is that it IS in the rules and we dont want to go backwards . I cant see this rule changing so I would be confident that bearings will be allowed ( sorry this was fully my mistake and has been fixed now)

The fact is that Shaynes car didnt comply over the last year ,and should NOT have past, you should bring this up with the scruiteneer , NOT WITH THE CCDA .

If anyone wants to confirm this check the rules

The rules haven't changed since the release of version 8 of the CCDA Rules & Regulations. Any amendment or change that has been discussed at a CCDA meeting will not take effect until they are released in a draft (version 9) and have been voted upon by the members of the CCDA. This draft will be available for all members to download from the CCDA website. All members have the right to comment. If you have any ideas or suggestions for production class or the rules and regulations in general please come along to a CCDA meeting and present them or forward them to the CCDA secretary (secretary@ccda4wd.com.au).
