New towing truck...?

Post by harvey »

I have a mate who's just bought a large motorhome/winnebago with a 350k nose/tongue weight. He needs a stronger tow vehicle than a Disco as he's been told the weight will sh*t the polyair bags. I've suggesteed a Landcruiser 80 series with extra heavy duty springs.

My question is... with the tongue weight and a total caravan weight of circa 4T would the 80 series with the above springs be any good or would the weight kill this vehicles suspension too?

Thanks HArv.

80 series are only 'legally' good for 3.5T. Pretty expensive risk you'd be taking towing a flash van that size around if something were to go wrong, because sure as hell insurance wouldn't pay up.

and f 250 or 350 maybe or an American import vehicle may be your best option most of them are legal for 4.5t. all the Aussie patrols and cruisers are only rated to 3.5t. or maybe perhaps get your self a small truck

yea, a 2wd ford f250 or f350 depending on what you are towing. They're able to carry 2.5 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes respectively in their tubs, so towing should be no dramas on the springs. You can get 4wd f250's too.
