starter motor solinoid continually failing

I have a small bosh starter from a late model falcon currently starting my 351, the starter does a great job but Ii am replacing the solinoid around every 6 months. After 5 months of use i just get nothing when turning the key, no click just nothing, I try a few times then it turns over and starts as if there was no problem. This happens for a week or two then it can only be started using a screwdriver on the terminals.
I have changed 3 now, 1st brand new, 2nd 6 months old, 3rd who knows from wrecker, all only last 6 months or so each.
Any thoughts appreciated,
I have changed the cable to a softer more flexible one thinking that the old one may have been stressing the treminals but no luck so far

heat from the extractors killing them, might need a heat shield

It has std manifolds so they are quite high, also the solinoid is rotated so its the lowest part so should get lots of fresh air. when i pull apart there seems to be nothing wrong with any part either the motor or the solinoid. I change the solinoid and its all good for another 6 months.

It is a std 6cly one, and fits straight in just using a spacer.

how are the castle auto ones different

Are you using a relay to switch the solenoid,if not you may be getting voltage drop through the start circuit.
If you can still start it by bridging the start terminal and the b+ stud there is nothing wrong the solenoid,When it plays up check the voltage at the switch terminal and it should be more than 10V ish.

When it does fail and I use a screwdriver to start I either get the passenger to turn the key as the solinoid will plunge out then I bridge the main battery lead to the motor power terminal. if alone then I need to bridge all three which requires 2 screwdrivers

I brought a little high torque starter off ebay for $125,has been in there for 9 months and never missed a beat .Bargain.
