3.0letre GU diesel query

My brother is looking to buy a 4b for touring/camping etc.. and has found an 01 model GU series 2.. only thing is its a 3 letre diesel.. are they the motor everyone was having problems with??? or was that the series 1 3letre??

Series 1 had the 2.8 (& 4.2), Series 2 was the first of the 3L ZD30. They are the ones that gave them a bad reputation. Maybe the one he's looking at has already had the motor repaired/replaced, if it has it might be good, at the right price of course.

yeah thats what i been hearing that most probs were low km failures... this ones got 270K on it.... ? thought if it was gonna go bang gurgle fart.. it would have done it long ago? or are they tempromental?

there were a few good ones... my old mans got 180k on it.. no problems.. blocked off the egr though.

another friends got one with 350k on it and its just about buggered,, removing it to put in a td42 with even more k's :cool:
01 td42 GU patrol ute, with extra bits and pieces.

Can your brother afford to risk it? Spare 10k layin round for new engine?

imo he'd be better off with a low kilometer td42 gq or if he has to have a gu and cant afford the td42 get a petrol one on gas, or even the 2.8td over the zd30 - obviously just my opinion ;)

i gotta 2000 3litre gu... and she still goin hard at 220000, still goin real hard.. havent had problems yet... wat actually happens to them do they just blow up?
