Navrun After Dark 4/5th Oct, 2008 at Abefeldy. VIC
Our last Navrun based event not only for 2008 but for 2009 as well, as Hobzee and I will be taking a short break after running 8-10 events a year for 5 years.
Of course Cliffhanger is on for 2009, and I would still like to run the Amazing Race in Easter for 2009.
Navrun After Dark will be based at the Donnellys Creek Region. Based on hard navigation and easy to medium driving.
Event will commence before lunch and conclude at or before midnight.
Event is just over half filled, so get your entries in soon. Remember the last Navrun After Dark sold out, so get to it.
More info and entry form www.navrun.com.au and click on Navrun After Dark link.

Remember guys, this is the last Navrun for 2008.
There will be no Navruns for 2009. Hobzee and I will only be runnning the Cliffhanger, and I might be running the Amazing Race as well.
The Pursuit is full for 2008 as well, so this is it. We have about 5 spots left for this one, so get to it.

set up
OK Navsters - I went out there on Sunday and Navrun Afterdark is all set up and ready to go. I wont be there at the start to do briefing and Rudi will be doing this on my part. I have asked him to mention the following...
I did EVERY track in the region - no mucking around but driving a steady safe pace I did it all in 10 hours. My suggestion is to PLAN WELL, dont spend 2 hours in camp plotting, and make sure you dont do tracks twice - you dont have time.
There is one pic of a cross on a tree. That was taken out of my left window - we will accept shots out of right window if you are heading the other way. Not a safe place to turn around for a pic.
For normal Navrun pics that you take we will apply 50% points for the pic itself and 50% points for telling us which pic # was taken at that way point. We wont score any pics you take in the dark .. full stop. However if you still go to the waypoint and identify what pic was taken there then we will give you the 50%. If you "Guess" the wrong one we will deduct the 50%. This means you can still do navigation in the dark and get some points but the trick will be to get as many done in day light as possible.
There is a page of Find Me's - give us the way point of that location.
There is several pages of Navrun way points with pics.
There is a question sheet
There is a photo stick map - The car is the arrow. If you have not done one of these Rudi will explain at briefing.
The terrain was bone dry and dusty. I had a GQ wagon on 35" mud terrains and used both diff locks on occasions. There has been floods and bushfire in the past 2 years and many tracks have completely changed. Some seem steeper than before - maybe I am getting too old for this. It is up to you to drive within the limits of your vehicle and your own skill set. There are tracks that will keep the experienced drivers enthusiastic. If you are not experienced then please find an altrenative route... even in the photo stick map.
Rudi will announce start and finish times at briefing - bearing in mind day light saving adjustments.
I will be pre-driving Pursuit South course and that is in the same area as you guys. I will be on UHF channel 15 and my Next G phone works on booster - 0417 486 637. If you need a hand I will be there. I have a speed radar and if you are speeding I will be there too. Rudi will announce speed limitations at briefing.
I will see you guys at the finish for a celebration
If anyone wants to do Pursuit North course with me on Sunday you are most welcome provided you are not competing in Pursuit. I hope to be finished and on my way home by about 4pm Sunday.

Thanks for a great day Rudes & Hobzee.
Sorry we left early this morning and we didn't stay to get the results. We had a great time and I enjoyed the steep tracks. The turbo did get hot on some of the hills and I even go to stretch the winch rope for a couple of characters we found stuck on a river bank.
Am now looking forward to the Piranha Pursuit. See you guys then.
cheers
Alberto.

Hey y'all.... Good Work navster's was a top event..
We did managed to smash GQ power steering box so had no powersteering for 3/4 of the event... Our GPS crapped itself getting on dark so we broke out the handheld.. but in a panic forgot to check the datum and yes.. it was wrong. So we put the co-ords for the stick map in the wrong datum.....
Thanks to all the other competitors for there courtesy. See ya's at the Piranha... and yes, we'll have a spit roast on the track there...
Dan
P.S. Great news about the A/R rudes

Yep another top event - harder than usual though, we never really felt like we were on top of things! If i had of been more observant we could have picked up 150+ points pretty easily
Bad luck about the PS box ruffy - what did you hit? Weren't speeding were you?
Don't worry you weren't the only one to give stick map co-ords in WGS84
Thanks again Rudi and Hobzee, competitors and sponsors. - good to hear navruns will continue next year
