Cab swap - Surrogate number

Well I went down to the transport department and asked what the go is with reregistering my truck once it has a new cab. I was asking cause obviously the numbers on the cab and the chassis will no longer match. The girl said it is a police matter and I have to go and apply for a surrogate number for the body. She made out like it was a big hassle. I didn't have the heart to mention that it would have a new engine too therefore those numbers wouldn't match.

Just a couple questions. Has anyone done this and if so was it really that much of a hassle? Will it be a similar problem with the engine number not matching or will that just be a matter of getting the details off the modplate once it is engineered?

just done it in qld . go to cop shop in your area ask for surrogate vin number, take car with u they inspect it take all details do a check for any thing dodgy if ok they issue u number . then u get rwc with new number stamped near old chassis number, then u go and register it . took me 6hrs all done no hasseles. some coppers can cause pain but be nice do as they say and its all sweet. make sure u clean your truck nice and preety

hmmm i'll have to let my mate know about this topic, he's thinking about droping a 45 series ute body onto an 80 series chassis, would there be any hassles with this?

Hybrid ,if you just changed the cab to a cab from the same model ,engine from same its only a matter of , A change of details on the rego papers ,This will require a blue slip if you live in nsw.
If its from another model and requires engineering you need to get the engineering done then get the blue slip then go to rta and have the detials changed and the engineer paper work number added to you rego papers.

That sounds promising. I thought that it was more of a case that the girl wasn't really sure of the process or that it's a hassle for them not me. So she acted like that to discourage me. No problems with it being purty. It will be fully resprayed, inside and out, and have a fresh engine.

The cab will be from the same model but it will be an extracab as opposed to the single cab that is currently on it. So I'm guessing it will still have to be engineered. The engine is a commo V6 so it will have to be engineered anyway so it's not really much more hassle to have the cab done on the same report.

Thanks for the input guys. It's my first project and my biggest worry is getting the paperwork in order.

it dosnt matter about blue plates . u need tags off of cab that is to be used then u go to police first before u mod plate it other wise the numbers dont match up when u register it
