for that price your better off just doing an LS2 conversion as some of the people i know who have done the VH45 have now moved across to a LS2.

A guy known as Kill Bill had one, pulled it out for a L76 for more power and low down torque, we tuned it, he's much happier with it than the VH45.

Cheers

I've got one that is also turboed. Completed it over a year ago and apart from changing a few small things like PS pump and oil filter setup it is running as it was from the very start.
If you want to do something for cheap easy power then go for an LS as so many have done it and you can buy anything for them off the shelf. They are only just starting to get kits and bits for the VH now and alot of the stuff is from the US as well.
The VH is a pretty amazing motor and is extremely strong etc etc but an LS is a lot bigger and it is hard to beat cubes. Physically they are of similar size with LS being slightly smaller. Quad cams take a lot of room. Same goes for weight. But if you want a bullet proof motor that will rev it nuts off then go for it.
They use the same trans as a Patrol and mine has proven to be reliable. Turbo or SC it and 5-600hp is very reliable on a standard motor. I haven't taken the heads of mine and it has 280 rwkw and it is only running to 6000rpm and no VVT. It is still running factory injectors as well. As soon as money permits it will get some bigger injectors and a retune so that I can have 7400rpm and switch the cams. We will then tune for slightly lower boost and normal fuel so that we can have a less stressed 300ish rwkw and still retain the linear power delivery.

I bought a VH45 half cut last month with 70 000 kms (believed to be genuine) For $ 1950. Try ichiban imports in Moorebank NSW if youre interested.

I bought mine in a Q45 running so I could test drive it. Cost $2k because the active suspension system was stuffed. Not many around so pretty hard to find (and even harder in Oz I would imagine) but a good way to get one.
You need the Q45 transmission if using Patrol auto as the torque convertor and input shafts are different. Also the Q45 auto is much better than standard Patrol auto. (but Patrol can be changed internally easily)

i have installed a vh45 in a mates gq king cab comp truck that he is now selling.
the conversion was actually pretty easy to mount motor/ box. the truck had to have 2" body blocks and we then still had to build custom extractors for it as standards would foul on chassis rails. a good alloy radiator would be a nice thing for the conversion however we found with a good gq diesel radiator it seems to be keeping it nice and cool now.
the wiring is best left to a pro auto lecky if you are going to run standard computer.
my mates truck with standard comp fully manualized auto and reverse pattern box and no other mods on 35's got 192 rwhp and 1100ftp of tourque straight after the conversion was ompleted and without even a tune.

i am just about to install a vh45 into my gu ecept i have had a custom flyweel and spacer made to run the standard patrol 5 speed box as i hate autos and am chasing better response out of my truck

I'm running a 3 core GQ radiator with Falcon fans and that has been more than adequate apart from when full of mud. We are going bigger but that is so it will stay cool once the rad is partially blocked with mud.
