lux 4x4 problem

Post by all 4's »

lookin at buyin a lux, its a 81 single cab, v6 commie motor (vp i was told) all plated in qld lifted springs (2in i think) gear box has a grinding noise sounds dry, and when put in 4x4 there is a clunking noise when driving, there is a lot of movement in the uni's near the transfer (2 uni's back 2 back not sure wat its call) could this be causing this noise? rest of car in g/c with rwc, he askin 5500 was thinkin bout offering him 2500-3000 as is and putting new uni's in n change oil in gear box or box all together, or do i walk away. any advise taken, its for work now but will be building it slowly for off road,

im sure its not that simple i thinkk you need to get the output shaft modified they dont just botl in and nine times out of ten it costs a lot more to do that as well

my hilux had a real clunky, clak/clack type noise when in 4wd. Same as you there was lots of play b teh unis at the transfer case end. turned out to be the carden joint in the middle of uni joints. the part itself is a 100 9carden rebuild kit) or so, or i picked up a reco front shaft for 400 and is good as new, and quiet.

there should be no play in the unis anywhere on the car so i would say thet is where your noise is from.

Cheers
James
