Cracked Bonnet Hinge Mount

Noticed today my bonnet wouldn't close properly. Then found the passenger side bonnet hinge had cracked from the surrounding metal.

Has anyone had this happen before? Anyone got any idea why it happened? (possibly due to shoddy maruti build quality :x ) And does anyone have any hints as to how it can be fixed?

Any help appreciated

Have you been standing on your bonnet?

Or has there been excessive pressure put on the windscreen surround?

You could possibly remove the hinge, cut out the cracked section and weld some new plate with some captive nuts back in??

take hinge off, use a BFH and dolly, plate with sheet metal, redrill holes and rethread, paint and reatatch hinge...

OR

pay someone to fix it..

OR

adjust the hinges or latch so it does close, and fix it when it wont adjust anymore...

OR

buy a "real" suzuki :lol: j/k

That is a fatigue crack caused by lack of maintenance.. IE: Not oiling the bonnet hinges often enough.
The hinges are tight due to no lubrication and have been flexing the metal.

I would remove the hinges and straighten out the sheetmetal, then weld up the crack, grind and paint.
Oil the hinges before reassembly.

:rofl: This may infact be the case, but honestly, who here oils their bonnet hinges. I have never had a problem opening the bonnet, no noises from the hinge so I guess I've never even thought about oiling them.

Ah well, thanks for the ideas. A complete PITA but it has to be fixed now :cry:

I give the bonnet, door and tailgate hinges a squirt of Lanox every month or so. Mostly so I don't get rust stains. Spray and then wipe off the excess and it all takes about 3 minutes.

I'd rather oil the hinges 50 times than repair a crack like yours. ;)

Yea yea, ok lesson learned. This should serve as a reminder for other zook owners, oil those damn hinges :lol:

the love doin that, my old 1 litre had both sides the same as that, hinges where is good condition and working well meh i have no idea

all i know is that mine where snapped all the way out and the bonnet was tied on with wire, obviously only when i bought it

put it on its side more and let the power steer and engine oils do all the work for you :cry:

My 1.0 has cracked the driver's side.

As per Want33 - the only way is to weld it up, smooth and paint, and lube the hinges, but I think it might be fatigue due to the bonnet flapping as much as grabby hinges.
