water to air intercooler. Which thermo fan for water and mud

Post by uzdnabuzd »

I have a water to air intercooler and the thermo fan on the IC rad has crapped itself from water and mud.

I am wondering what is the best type of fan to use for this application. There must be heaps of comp trucks around with a fan on the front of the IC rad That cop a hammering.

Are there sealed units available

Cheers

I would love to be able to do that but it is a wagon.

Davies craig make thermo fans. Try their catalogue.

Another option is regular cleaning and a good quality fan. (like Davies Craig)
I run Falcon fans on my radiator and at the Rotorua comp this year, there was so mud mud and crap that the fans got jammed and blew the fuses. Cleaned the shroud out and new fuses and they went fine. I have now added some big slotted at the bottom of the shroud to let the mud and crap out. Since then the idler pulley bearing have seized etc etc but the fans are fine. Just a matter of a bit of extra servicing.
My intercooler rad is on the deck so not a fair comparison.

cheers for the ideas, keep em coming.

Yeah i used to wash it out quite regularily. it used to blow fuses which was great but then it stopped blowing fuses and it crapped itself. I checked the relay and checked power at the fan and that is all good.

I think i will get a davies craig one today and see what happens. I dont like the fact that the fins are not joined together on the davies craig ones though.

Thanks
