Turbo Tech question - Subaru
Lookin on ebay at a subaru, and noticed this thing on the turbo
Anyone know what it is and why? is it a "hood" to keep all the heat into the turbo, and off the rest of the engine bay? If so, seems like a great idea...

So its something you buy or this is just something the dude made up?simkell wrote:in tight engine bays with rubber lines and fuel lines running close it to the turbo, just provides a little protection. also helps to retain the temperature on the exhaust side of the turbo to try and reduce turbo lag. Haven't seen proof of this thou.
Got a spare one?simkell wrote:um, unknown but the tanks i wok on have them.

Yeh they are turbo bags. XTR also make them. My brother had a few issues with these on his Drag Car. I don't think these are suited to high high high horsepower cars. It ended up cooking the bag. Smoke pouring out of the engine bay. That said, a few mates run them on the VL turbos and haven't had any issues. They help keep heat away from other things such as ABS units, sensors etc etc. They don't help with turbo lag.
MTQ sell them, they are SONIC branded. They are good and bad, they do retain heat, reduce lag and lower underbonnet temps, they also can cause the exhaust housing to fatigue due to the retained heat.
