Hey guys, looking at fitting dual batteries to my Triton. Was looking at purchasing this projecta item.

Mate buy a Traxide SC40, a significant amount of members here on Outers use em, including me, and they work fantastic.

a) You'll get more useable than redarc
b) huge redarc relay is not needed and pulls significant power itself. Nice, but excessive and wasteful.

If my diesel doesn't start first go, it aint going to go.
I've run race cars and my cruiser on Odyssey Start batteries 1/3 the size of a normal battery, including wet petrol engines tha wouldn't start etc etc.
There is BY DESIGN a huge amout of Reserve Capacity (RC) in a strat battery for running accessories.
Your conservative approach could be matched with don't take the car onto the dirt, as it might get into the working parts and wear it out early. And be careful of the paint, you might scratch it.

Also a pain in the ass when you want to have a fridge running and you only have the 1 battery, do you take the risk or rather know you'll be able to start the motor.

its just safer to not use your starter cos what happens if your starting battery gets damaged and you drop a cell in it or something and have left your lights on and just run out of fuel and need to crank the engine over a bit to help the fuel through and your batterys just been discharged to 50%. i know its not likely to happen.... but what if it does? you'd be effed.
