G'day all,

My belts squeek on my TB42. What could/should I use to stop them squeeking?

Also, just changed my rear brake pads. Now the bastards squeek while driving and braking, any ideas??

Spray the buggers with a bit of WD40. Its a lube, but also seems to clean the pulleys.
I drove around the desert for 2 weeks with out AC cos the belts squealing. Got home sprayed with wd40 and they never squeaked again.

mate put dishwashing liquid on the belts and pulley gap. start the motor and wash it off with a hose. You can also buy belt grip spray that works reasonably well.

get a stick of dry lube from auto shop.. stick of wax. run across the inside of the belt.

now dont go to the sex shop and ask for some lube, although it may work

I've found squeeking belts are from them being too old and need to be replaced.

the squeeking is them slipping and while you can tighten them up to remove the squeeking if they are too old tighting them won't help and will just keep squeeking.

I've never ever used WD40 or other lubes to stop themonly tighten or replacing, belts only last around 100,000KLMs anyway.

The rear pads probably have excess brake dust on them that can cause squeeking as well as them being old/need replacing/grinding metal on metal.

You can buy brake cleaner to remove the brake dust.

Nope mine where brand new before the trip. I think in my case it was just a build up of crap on the pulleys and spraying some WD40 on them with the car running. Just cleaned them a little.

wait a week or two with the rear breaks. they need to be broken in. i had the same thing two months ago and blew up at my mechanic thinking it was the wear indicator on my old ones that he forgot to change

Did you seat the new brake pads? not sure if not doing it could cuase them to glaze and sqeak???

I once had a bike and the rear brakes sqeaked and the bike shop said it was cause i wasnt putting enough pressure on them, and the light pressure was making them glaze over. sure enough a few harder hits on the brakes and a change in riding style and they never squeaked again.

brake pads dont have asbestose in them any more (since 2003 i think?)
now they have higher levels of brass and other metals depending on the brand. They are harder to stop squeeking u might have to get used to it or try another brand/compound of brake shoes. Another thing if there disc u can get anti squeel stuff that goes between the pad, shims and calliper or shamfer the edges of the pad with a grinder sounds rough but works. hope that helps
