Hi Ladies
After talking to many girls and guys over the ETC/VWC the other weekend it seems that a lot of ladies would like to compete in the Chick
Winch'08 but don't feel ethier confident or comfortable doing so without a male counterpart beside them.
So... after much discussion and deliberation it has been decided to allow another class to the event incorporating a mixed gender team. There are 2 conditions to this type of entry and they are:
1. Female driver, male navigator
2. Mixed teams will run as a Trophy Class
This means that only female teams will be eligible for prizes.
We feel that this will encourage more women to get behind the wheel and build more confidence to compete as an all female team in the future years.
Entry forms will be out in a couple of weeks and the cost will be similar to the Engel entries but still need to be finalised.

There will be production and challenge vehicle classes in the event.
Driver abilities will be taken into consideration when the tracks are being set up.
I anticipate over the years that they will increase in difficulty as experience goes up. At the same time we don't want to make it too easy either. It will be a winching challenge. It may be a mandatory winch and others will come down to driver ability and team work.

forget the $$$ this should be a event run by the guys of the sport for our partners. if it takes off in a few years it may be a full on comp. until then the word on the street is to just keep it a fun event.

Forget the $$$ and numbers make it a CHICK Winch like originally stated. Most of us have never been involved in the sport apart from supportting our partners and friends.
It doesn't matter if you get 10 or 30 entries the idea was it is to be a first and used to promote the sport to all. I definately would not be competing in a mixed event and prizes is not what I am after so that in its self is not enough incentive for me to accept the goal post being moved from the original concept first set out by Mrs Krim being a total Ladies only event. Its the pure fact of learning and being able to experience the sport first hand and all being of the same capability.
Mel if it is too much for you and you feel you can not please everyone then, take not of what Krimnl said and let the boys run the event, an event similar to how they organised and ran On Track SSS would be fantastic.

Mel, that is not my intention to make you feel that way. You talk of letting males compete to increase entries and sponsorship none of that was of concern to us ladies wanting to have a go. We were with you 100% to promote the sport regardless.

It seems that people have forgotten that a forum is designed for discussion, which can get heated at times. Whenever an event is organised or ran it always gets critisism in some way or another. That is good, that is how things evolve and get better.
You are not going to please everyone know matter what you do. Some people seem to believe that since it was their idea for an event that is how it is going to be with know changes. Come on, I wish I lived in that work.
If we are trying to promote the sport shouldn't we, to some degree, be targeting this event to the lower end of the scale.
I talked to my partner about the comp and she felt it was an excellent idea, if she didn't have to drive and if she was to drive then would won't me sitting next to her for support and advice. I feel that there would be many men in my position feeling a bit funny about letting their partners drive there pride and joy around.

Obviously the all Girls tems would be made up of those girls who feel that they know what they are doing and have the confidence and ability to compete that way. They would complete all tracks as normal. With no outside assitance since it is a CCDA competition
The mixed team would look at changing over the driver and navigator depending on track. Difficult track man drives, easier track female drives with a compolsory winch, to gie experiance without a huge degree of danger.
If it is about promotion, from small things big things grow. If their first experiance it a good one then the sport can only benefit from it.

I dont think its a bad thing having boys as a co driver. If it means more girls compete then great! And having two sections is a great idea.
Then the all girl teams shouldn't feel threatened by the male intruders.
Whatever the decision, I will still compete and support the event.
I hope people can submit their feelings a little more diplomatically next time. Its great that we can voice our opinions but we need to remember how much time and effort people put in to these events and that they ARE NOT PAID FOR THEIR TIME.

hmmm, noticed that recent events are being run privately by individuals with dollar signs in eyes trying to make a quick buck. hope im wrong. 
i think male nav and let the misses drive would be good idea, wouldn't feel comfortable bout throwing the misses and her navi the keys to my race truck, to much could go wrong$. if i could nav atleast and offer advise would be safer for all

I am with Pete on this - I don't see the issue with a male navigator for this event - but only as a navigator and nothing more, none of this swapping drivers - thats just lame.
The male should be there if desired by the female driver, in no other capacity than to provide support.
My partner was advised of this event and she was interested in competing but felt uncomfortable driving my vehicle as she had very little experience (actually none at all) with offroading, and felt even more uncomfortable sitting in my vehicle with a stranger telling her how to drive. So in light of this, would it be wrong to allow females interested in entering to use their partners as a support?
Would it not bring females into the world of offroad racing who would otherwise simply never try? To me it seems reasonable and logically really and would not take away from the luster of a female event. We want the sport to grow, but we can't do that unless you initiate new people into it, and this is one such method, and it would not take away from a women's event as only the women get to drive.
Realistically how many all girl teams are there currently looking to compete - and how many would there be if male navis were allowed? It needs to be weighed up, so perhaps some calculations need to be made before people start saying yes or no to the concept. If there is enough all girl teams to make this an event and not just some social outting equivilant to a drive at wombat state forest, then giddi'up I say - but if there isn't then why not consider it?

Both myself & Mel have had plenty of emails & phone calls regarding this event. We have spent a fair bit of time on the phone and have decided to back each other and run it as a chicks only event.
The original concept was to have this a LADIES ONLY event not a couples event.
We both agree that a couples event could be a great thing aswell, I would love to do an event with my partner but this is not what the chick winch is about and it may happen in the future.

Good call Darren. I say just do it. I can see both sides of the argument and also agree with both sides too. Why not have both but at seperate events? ChickWinch is just that. Couples at another time and date. Both have their pros and cons.

.....I so wish I could join in.....If I may add my 2cents worth. The idea of all women teams is exo, as long as u have enough teams.
Personally I have as u may know "always" been the competition team driver with my hubby Eugene as my navie. He has "never ever" driven any of the competition timed special stages...and only in the last couple OBC's would he drive the night transport sections, that where just that, and not timed SS's, to give me a much deserved break.
It can be a hairy sport, especially the winching and I have always felt far more confident knowing that Eugene was my offsider.
So if having mixed couples will swell the numbers, that can only be a good thing, and in some cases, be a helpful learning curve too.
Afterall it's the driver (who is alone in the car in a winching situation) who picks the line and makes the decisions and operates the winch @ the same time too.
