snapped axel, how do i get it out

i have an 80 series cruiser and my rear left axel snapped at willowglen and its dropped into the housing. have richmond lockright locker in there. how the hell do i get the axel out. can i pull the centre with the spline still in there????

Have had the same happen in 75 before, just pulled the cap an the axle had welded itself to the housing. Yours doesnt sound that bad. Used a die grinder and a long bit, and burred out as much as i could, then got a stick welder, welded some bar onto it and used a slide hammer method to get it out. Worked a treat

the axel is loose but i snapped too far in to pull out, it's about 200mm from the end of the the hub. the only way out i can see is remove the whole diff, put it on end and shake the bastard out

use a stick welder


then pull on the stick when you have stuck it to the axel

would draining the oil, removing the outer pieace then jacking the opposite side of the axle up help dislodge it? then try and remove the centre... might take a bit of jiggling... wobbly the pinion back and forth to see if you can dislodge it...

Im with ice...weld 2 sticks together to get length if needed, and put a descent 3 or 4 second weld onto the end of the shaft b4 having an assistant turn the welder off at the power point....this will give you a means to pill out the broken axle.

or....go to godfreys and test their vacuums out

Last one I snapped on the sierra we found a length of Telstra conduit and the flared joiner end fit snug over the axle and out it came the 80 axle is probably a little (or a lot) larger and I don't know how large they make conduit but worth a shot.
