Post by thehanko »

Hi Guys,

Got a mate looking at a sierra but its been off the road for 2 years and has a few mods which havent been engineered. so im trying to work out which ones others have had engineered ok in NSW or VIC as he is not sure where he will register it and which ones people have had issues with.

Spring over axel conversion.

HIgh steer

hilux diffs

extended shackles.

32's for rubber.

any input would be great.

Hilux diffs in a zuk isnt engineerable in vic.... or is that wanted in a zuk :finger:
Seriuosly talk to an engineer and see what they think, toys hi steer and 32s should be good not sure on shackles though but hthey are easy to swap out.
Im NOT an engineer, but mine has all that and more and it was fine.

longer shackles aint gonna happen, 32's are gonna be a problem because they add lift. if it has hilux spring over and a body lift it will be too high, above the six inches max that most engineers are going by. and vic does allow hilux diffs, its just hight that will be a drama.

nice work, now everyone wants it

looks pretty neat, but been unreg for a while, and it has od diff centers?!?!?!?! does that strike you as a touch dodgy?

as i read the hilux diffs are not under it yet, but it comes with them.

I think he has now turned his attention to a wr400.

thanks for the info.

Hey fellas this is my sierra that your going on about. Yeah I've owned it for 2 years and all it has done is sit in my drive way. When I brought the zook my sole intention was to fix it up and give it to my son, but he isn't interested in a 4x4. I never even put a spanner on it except to put a diff centre in the rear because it was blown when I brought it. The first time I drove the thing was the day before I listed it to take the pic's for ebay. There is absolutely nothing dodgy about the zook ,I think it is probably one of the tidy ones. The body is near perfect with 2 rust bubbles the size of a match head. As for the drive line the motor purrs the gearbox is sweet the transfer is ok. It has climax shackles in the rear and the fronts are extended to match the length of the climax rears. The hilux diff's arn't even fitted they are just going to be thrown in with it. The diffs are wt front and the rear is out of a vitara it used to have 5.12 centres I still have one. I have set a reasonable reserve and I have heaps of spares to boot. ie: 2 transfers steering box. This vehicle can be engineered in NSW easily If you have a decent engineer. I have had 7 4x4 engineered in the last few years 4 spoa conversions on toyotas running 36 pedes and 2 patrols with 4inch lift and 35's and another zook.If you have any doubt's on the bodgyness of the zook well please don't bother to bid. Good luck to all the others.

x 2

There was a fellow on here a few years ago that bought a sierra from NSW that already had a set of spring-over hilux diffs under it along with a hilux engine (i think)... it came with a NSW cert.

He transferred it to vic plates - didn't need to do the cert again.

So - just as Not Stock has stated - if built correctly and with the right engineer for the job - sure - it should all be doable (maybe not the tyres though).
