wanting to put uhf radio and antenna in zook.
How easy is this, and can you recommend a cheap/effective uhf, and antenna set up?

First uhf arial i mounted was using the crossbar that runs behind the front bumper. I simply cut a large notch out of the top of the bumper, attatched the arial to the crossbar, and it stuck out the notch.
The second one i used a guttermount on the guttering of zook, but that flexes too much and will eventually damage the guttering, so im going to find another way of mounting, propably on my swingaway tyre carrier.

cheap effective uhf is the GME TX3200 can be had second hand for around 200 bucks. TX3400 is same shape with more functions and higher price. The 3200 is fine for general use for convoys on a trip.
If you wheel predominately in hilly terrain go for a 3db aerial which has a round radiation pattern good for reception up and over hills a 6db is a bit flatter and a bit of a compromise and a 9db good for flat terrain.
e.g. radiation patterns
My setup in my car
I also use a AE409L antenna has 6 and 9db arials in the kit and it can also fold down without removal from the base in heavy scrub.

Ah mate, I give up, you win. I only have an immobiliser, not an imobaliser, and my centre console is absolute crap compared to your senter console.DavePatrol wrote:mine has central locking with remote and full imobaliser and alarm plus a senter console and no the carpet isent aftermarket its standed.
As for the carpets, I only have standard carpet - that standed carpet looks much better. Mine's just some cut pile crap.
Just being an idiot. Seriously that is one tidy Zook - good work!

Back on topic - still haven't made up my mind about the TX3220 vs the TX3440.
Deal is TX3220 (remote head) + 6dB cheapo aerial for $275 + cheapo DSE handheld ($60?) = $335
OR
TX3440 (all controls on mic) + TX680 (handheld) + 3dB/6.5dB RFI antennas for $530
Extra $200 for upgrade That's a lot of coin - is it worth it? I can afford it, but its not worth paying if I won't get any real advantage out of it....
I'd go with uniden hey I just got a uh015sx. it is 40 channel uhf cb and also a police scanner all in one unit. it has the romote head plus at the moment uniden is offering 2 year warranty. I got mine from www.prestige.net.au for $380 that included the 4.5db elevated feed amtenna and all the wiring and coax etc plus free postage australia wide.
you can't beat their prices. I went to Dick smith and just the radio alone was $400
well worth a look
