Post by macneil »

is that to the rear main seal or should i be looking for another gear box?

what colour is the oil?

if its yellowy or brown then its gearbox

if its black its engine

if you can't tell, stick your finger in it and then have a whiff. if its pongy, its gearbox, if its diesely its engine.

if it is either, its a cheap fix. most expensive part is removing the gearbox to do it.

They will quite happily have a rear main engine leak for years with no probs, unless it is leaking real bad just monitor the oil levels regularly.

There have been plenty of cars over the years that leaked oil from various locations from new.

At least while its leaking you know there's still oil in there :D :D :D :D

I've got the same thing on my TD42. Rear main seal.
It's been leaking for a while now, I regulary check oil level and never notice any significant loss.

My mechanic says leave it alone until you need a new clutch and then do it all together.
