Ln106 Steering Dampner

Post by Evski »

Wow dont I feel stupid! I just bought an old man emu steering dampner for my hilux and cant get the old one off. The passangers side is attached with a ball joint on one end and a nut and bolt on the other. How do I get it out and the new one in? I tried hitting the bolt but it didnt budge, I assumed that this would just come out and be reused with the new dampner. Sorry for the stupid question but im stumped?

The ball joint is at one with the damper, it gets replaced with it.
You put a dolley of some form behind the steering arm to prevent it from taking the force, and you hit it out with a hammer. You are doing it right.. just not 'quite' right.

Go buy a ball joint splitter, it will wedge in between the damper and rod and you just give a hit with a hammer to pop it out. They can stuck in there pretty tight.

Nice one guys. The other drama is the new dampner didnt come with a new ball joint, just a bush. Is there a way to transfer the old joint to the new dampner?

the new one should also have come with a steel pin you knock into the drag ling and bolt thru from both sides INSTEAD of the ball joint.

If you dont have one, take it back
