super charge a 4.2diesel ??
super charge a 4.2diesel ??
can you super charge one , if so comodore blower or supra ??
If that is GQHOON's log in I tuned that many years ago, it was a Vortec blower which is very much like a turbo only belt driven, it delivers boost in a linear fashion more with more RPM (It was also petrol). Turbos offer more boost at low rpm and have less parasitic loss, but do have lag. If you wanted a blower with maximum efficiency off idle you need a P.D. (positive displacement) blower that moves the same volume of air every revolution. The eaton M90 is basically what the V6 Commodore uses, it would work but is on the smaller side. There are a number of blowers from Sprintex, Yella Terra and Eaton that deserve consideration for such a project. The effort will be in the mounting and pulleys, on the positive side it shouldn't require an aneroid as the boost is practically instant.

and it should run cooler than a big boost turbo as belt driven not exhaust jamming into something that is touching and also charging intake air. You can keep exhaust side totally seperate and the only heat increase will be due to chargeing the intake... Food for thought anyway
GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

You can do both!
Yuri did it to his 75 series TLC Ute diesel and I am following his example. He is building my SD33T and we are going super charger pre-turbo. This is not a top mount worm drive s/c through. Works awesome by his account on his TLC so I don't see why it won't work awesome on a Patrol. Tons of power off the line, plenty of grunt for towing or w/e with the turbo. If I recall right he has backed turbo down to about 10psi and intake manifold pressure is at 18psi. With intercooler he says he has lost 150 off the EGTs! He says it rocks off the line and turbo kicks in hard at 2500rpms with kick ass power to redline.
I have pics of the set up on a TLC but not posting w/o his approval.

i wouldn't supercharge another diesel ... mine seemed pretty uneventful
had good torque and power ... i looked at more boost etc
but $$$ changing belts was the biggest problem ... getting them!
and keeping a spare
my turbo diesel ute was easily boosted and had far more power across the rev range an no belts to replace just the factory ones

my point was not which is better than the other. I think most people will agree a turbo is better on a diesel than a s/c. But point is you can put one on a diesel and get performance gains. And better than that you can run both a turbo and a S/C at the same time. Obviously not for everyone but when trying to get every last bit of power out of the motor it is an option.

yah sorry rmp&o wasn't directed at ur setup
i'm keen as to watch the build on the s/c turbo
are you going to rebuild the whole engine?
balancing and all that jazz?

and ya bottom to top full rebuild. Full rebuild on I/P too. Port and polish head, a half ass blueprinting, modify injectors, custom built garret turbo, custom "hi-flow" air intake/filter set up, external oil cooler/pump/filter set up, shaved sump....blah blah blah.
Heavy deposits made, tear down started...stoked!
don't ask why I am doing this to an old SD33T...I don't really have a good reason!
