PM VKYOOT off this forum, he has done one before.

if you keep the manual in it, you need to treat it with respect, as the damage record was 2 diffs and 2 gearboxs from just a bit oif hard driving.

but it was an entertaining ute none the less

5.0L with Nissan Patrol gearbox, transfere case and diffs, otherwise as previously stated, expect to break things.

Been running a 5 litre for 5 years in a 79 hilux
So far i trashed the turbo 700 which was first in it an have gone back to the LN46 4 spd which has now been rebuilt as a 5 spd
Blown 1 diff while towing car trailer carrying another hilux
All comes down to the driving style

Yeah I have a 1uz in my hilux and run 36's.
I drive it hard but not stupid.
I have the standard 5 speed and diffs.
Haven't broken anything yet other then 1 front inner axle.
I do expect to bust a diff or gear box but haven't yet in 3 years.
The way you drive it hard has a lot to do with it.
Go jerking the drive train and you can say good bye to it very quickly.
I wouldn't put Nissan diffs under a hilux even if they were given to me.

any diffs will go under it, it just depends what you want,

i got a 5 litre in my lux, im putting gq diffs under that,

you doing the conversion yourself or paying someone to do it?

Paying someone will be around 10 grand drive in drive out

If you can bung an R150 series Toyo 5 speed in then the conversion will be heaps easier and the R150 will take a 5.0 for ever.

60 series diffs are the go for 4 Runners as they have the same track width, prolly wider than the Hi Lux units but that would be a good thing.

Cheers

dyna truck 5 speeds fit apparently, first gear ratio is too short for any use except maybe low range 2wd. dont know what year though
