Whilst on a night run last friday crawling at idle with hi-beams and XGT's switched on the dash volt guage dipped considerably and my dual battery monitor indicated that no charge was going to either battery. With all lights switched on I have 600watts sucking power
If at 2000+rpm volts would rise to almost normal daylight level.
I suspect the alternator needs a rebuild but I also want to improve the output of the unit, above the factory 80amp unit.
I did some research a while ago and found the 79 series has a 110amp (i think) alternator. I grabbed one of these from the wreckers and found that I only needed to slightly modify my alternator bracket (1HZ 80 series) to make it fit. You also may need to swap the loom plug as there is several different types. If you get one from the wreckers try to get the male part of the loom plug as well.
You can have your existing alternator rewound to a higher out put. Can cost a bit but will allow you to keep what you have without the hassle of trying to make something else fit.
