silly Q. about tyres ????
silly Q. about tyres ????
Hey guys, very new to this stuff.. 4x4 and forum... anyway got a question about which tyres to run.. I have a 4.8 gu, 2" lift, bought some 16x8 steel rims, and I'm looking at running 33's..
I was considering some maxxis creepy crawlers, or even going 35's and using maxxis trepadors... How ever cool these tyres might look, probably not too user friendly on the asphalt hey ???
And yes I will be running these tyres as my only set....
My next thought was the Cooper discoverers... Any help would be greatly appreciated..... Looking for something pretty agressive, but still half way decent on road.... yeah yeah I know... that's what everyone wants, and probably not achievable... but thought I shoul ask anyway...
thanks..... Luke..

Dunno who the hell Bogged is......., but shit guys.... I thought forums where about guys sharing info and helping each other out.... so far got nothin but wise arse remarks....
Yeah I know a the names a few different tyres I've seen used in magazines, and advertised, and yes I've already read endless articles on who has what, and where they got them from...... unfortunately all seem to be writen by people who have been given tyres to test, or are selling a particular brand....
I thought by posting here I might have recieved a couple of aussie guys keen to give another bloke a hand.... some real info from guys that used different stuff and are willing to give me the low down without upsetting thier clients, advertisers, or stockists....
Thanks guys... you have shown me that there are plenty of people willing to reply for sake of gettin there name seen..... If you have nothing constructive to say... don't say anything..., and if the post doesn't interest you, don't read it.....

I agree with Nut job, why does every single post have to be shot down by people who just seem to want to be the forum police. If You now there is another Thread somewhere else that you now off, can't you just pass it on.
For some reason this site seems to be the only site it happens on, guys just get over it and help each other out or just shut up.

dmac04 & Nut Job,
Heres a heads up I posted a link to a thread on this same page regarding tyres. In there your question will get answered.
The reason people get ticked with tyre threads, is that there is no new tech in them at all. We are just rehashing the same old with the same answer.
So go read that thread and continue it there.
When maxxis or who ever bring out the Mudtracker 6000 which has never been talked about start a new thread.
Bogged, I think I will find the bus soon.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Creepy Crawlers and Trepadore are not available in 33" variety. you can get a 35" trepadore in a radial construction but the Creepy is only a bias tyre and i dont believe bias tyres are legal for road use (to do with load/speed rating).
Coopers are not what they are talked up to be, you would probably be just as happy with a Maxxis Buckshot or Bighorn (although i believe noisy on the road) I have MT - MTZ's on my wagon and they appear to be pretty old and still going strong. once they wear out i will replace them with Maxxis Bighorns.

hey bud don't worry about all the utter crap replys you get here. obviosly all these guys are gods. i have run 35" treps on my rig for the last 2 years same set. have done 30-40 thou of highway and a bunch of dirt. ive still got about 10 mm of depth in the center. i do run 10" rims though. before i ran jungle trekkers and got nearly 80 thou from them. still have 5-8 mm of center tread. i check my pressures reguarly though. i run 36 on road cold and 10-16 off road. really when you check your tyres you should (at least once.) you should check them after 20 mins or so (warmed up) and your pressure should have rissen by 4 pounds. if not then your pressure may be out by a few pounds. this rule only applys on road. i love my treps on and off road. will buy them again. i think bias is ok on road as long as all four are bias. thats what qld transport says. good luck ray
i do not claim to be an expert just sharing the info that has been shared with me. we were all new once

Thanks for the link turps, I have read it and many others like it... problem seems to be searching this site... unless you type the exact info (wich is hard, because everyone has different lists for a similar topic) you don't find anything..... even in the link you posted, no real mention of tyre longevity, I'm not interested in diff ratios, and how far to lift the thing... and the amount guys bagging him for asking the question... what's wrong with you people...
As my opening line says... I'm new to all this, this is my first post...
cheers dmac04... as the post says... silly question about tyres.. and that's what is, too many people here (this site in general) seem to think it's fine to act like arsholes becuase no one can see their faces
You guys really are at the pinacle of off road vehicles, and your advice is second to none... just unfortunate you need a blown 400cube with front and rear lockers and 4.66 ratios to pull your head out of your arse...
To all the guys that truly are here for the right reasons, I appologise, I by no way include the honest and respectful blokes helping each other out, just a little jacked at the way these guys leave smart arse comments all over this site

it prob would but who cares its easy enough to pass over threads if you dont wanna read them. with a tread title like this you expect it to be a newbie ? . dont reply if it pisses you off. he had a diff ? to most reguading tyre wear of specific tyres and as a fellow human being he deserves a decent reply. let's not push newbies away.. see you on the tracks.

maxxis creepies are pretty expensive, about $100 each MORE than the BFG's and STT's, well they are in my little part of the world and you can bet that a bias tyre will be noisier and not as good on the street. I have been told that bias tyres are illegal too so there may be some insurance problems if you stack it into a BM or Merc
If you want an 'all rounder' in a mudy, try a BFG or STT. IMO they combine the best of both worlds ie off and on road. 285/75/16 on 16x8 is fine and will serve you well as an all rounder.
good luck and odnt be put off by the BS on threads. Its an open forum and you are gunna cop some flack from time to time, get used to it.

Look at the end of the day no one is laughing at anyone - they're laughing with them!
It's a straight up and honest question and yes maybe it's to be expected from a newbie but even a senior member can ask a similar question IF he/she HASN'T read back or searched through the threads. There is SH**loads of info on here and the threads about "bigger tyres" and "4-5 inch lift wanted-what do i i need to do?" will always reappear, to be honest it does take some time to sit and scan through the search results but the answers are usually there and from my experience - they and the advice given is usually always bang on!!!

I just had a thought...hienuf wrote:Well my aunty's inlaws brother's next door neighbours great grandson's best friend said the same thing.
Maybe your Aunty's inlaw's brother's next door neighbour's great grandson's best friend is Thicknick's uncle's next door neighbour's son...
