I do the Dobinson 4-5" flexi coils also, I run them in my LWB and love them. I think they're $350 or so for a set.

Hi Guys

PATROL
I have been doing a lot of development with the flexy coils. The old style flexy coils were too soft for a lot of people so I have been developing them to give a firmer ride. Available now is 2" lift, 3" lift, 4" lift, (4-5" lift very soft that everyone else is talking about)
5" lift (Still working on the rear coils because they ended up as a 6" lift)
6" lift flexy coils are available due to the 5" flexy coils being on steroids. I have 4 guys testing these in North Qld and others. All of them were super impressed with the rear coils and I couldn't talk them into a shorter lift so they made me make up higher front coils to suit the rears. I had no plans for a 6" lift but it seems there might be a 6" comeback.

In all the heights I have normal duty and heavy duty flex coils.

LANDCRUISER
They haven't taken off so much in the Cruiser but I have them in 3" and 4-5"

RANGIE/ DISCO
3" works well, normal and heavy duty
2" under development with massive flex (about a week away for the softer set)

Disco Series 2
3" flexy coils available now.
A few months away I suspect for the 2" flexy coils.
2" flexy coils under development

Prices are on my web site although I don't have some of the kits on there yet, I have been too busy setting up the shop at Slacks Creek, Qld. We should be open on the 1st of November.

Cheers

I find them very very good, they're not too soft at all. They're just as "soft" as the 2-3" dobinson coils, they're the same spring rate, same wire size. i've done numerous interstate and outback trips for both heavy touring and playing and they carry the weight pretty damn well, I lose only about 15mm of ride height when i'm all loaded up with camping gear, food, water, fuel, spares and tools, the back of my bus pretty much chokkas. I've tried to kill them, doing 110+ over some sharp outback grids getting airborne and it comes down fine, haven't lost any coil free height or ride height what so ever.

not trying to say "mine are better than yours" but its just a matter of opinion as to what is soft or not, I feel its better to say what you can do with the coils and let peeps make their own mind up

have fun with your shop......welcome to overheads!!!$$$

cheers

I agree, i just got these for a mate and the whole kit is very well put together..It holds the extra weight, flex's like a mule and is comfortable on and off road, shock lengths are finally matched to the spring travel for maximum (well as close to it compared to any other off the shelf kit i have ever fitted or used)

only thing, if you order a 4" kit, expect it to be around the 6" or bigger height and ask for 6" caster plates (these were offered in exchange for the 4" plates by shane) before you get the kit delivered.

I highly recommend suspension stuff for price, quality and working of the kit and customer service.

cheers mark

Thanks for the welcome to the overheads. I feel it.

Yes there is a lot of varying opinions on what is soft or firm and this is the reason why it takes a while to develop coils. One customer says they are soft and the next, they are fine. I am making my decisions on what most people want not the minority that want the extra soft ride(opinion)

As far as load carrying is concerned Dobinsons make awesome coils so they can get just about anything to stand up.

I won't go into detail about what I have done but I have achieved a bit more flex, a bit firmer ride with a coil that is a bit stronger. I have then developed a heavier version for those who want to load her up constantly and stay level.

I take nothing away from the design that you know but I received too many soft comments.

You actually got the 5" kit that morphed into the 6". I have a 4" kit now that no one has tried yet and should sit exactly at a 4". I will be redesigning the rear coils to get a true 5" lift.

The boys up north are raving about them to me so I think they would have a better idea about the improvements to their own rigs.

The boys up north are running 830mm Tough Dogs. The Tough Dogs have a big internal bump stop which limits up travel.
If you got my 3" lift flexy coils and Procomp shocks you would get more overall flex then the longest Tough Dogs. Have a look in the 3" lift section of my web site. If you want to run drop out cones or tie the coils in you can run heaps longer shocks again. https://www.suspensionstuff.com.au/shop ... ts_id=1069

Having said all that it isn't a big deal, my flexy coils only give about 2-3 inches of extra travel but you sure can notice the difference between a 2" lift and a 4-5" lift so it brings it more into perspective.

Flex isn't everything but if you are up for a new kit why not?

Dobinsons make the flexy coils that are exclusive to Suspension Stuff. I will be making the flexy coils available to the trade when all my flexy coils have had a decent test sample. (Plenty of Guinea Pigs with only positive comments)

I won't be doing any fitting at the new shop, I have employees for that.

Internet orders will always be an important priority at Suspension Stuff though.

I will also expand into the supplying of suspension and stuff to the trade guys.

Anyway back to setting up the showroom.

I also have the 4-5" flexys and I love them!

I'm not sure whether mine sits like 6" but I'm very happy with the ride and wouldn't go back to smaller coils.
Unfortunatley I haven't measured the hight before/after.

I just came back from another trip, flex and ride are great.
I run 30" Tough Dogs in the back which suit me fine.

The only problem I have is that the front coils make noises as the winds rub on each other whilst driving over washouts etc.
Not a big deal though.

Yep, did this, just as Shane has suggested. And wow what a result.

I use to run a 695mm shock and a heavy duty 3" coil in my GQ wagon, I spoke to Shane about what I needed and he hooked me up with 3" flexy coils, drop out cones and some pro-comp shock that are longer than 800mm.

Works and absolute treat and sould not hesitate to recommend to anyone!!!

Cheers, Dano.

P.S. Shane, my mate will call you soon about some 4" flexys in a heavy duty I think, just a heads up!

If anyone wants pics I can get some if needed, now I finally have Broadband.........thanks Mr Rudd!!!

Hi there guys, I'm one of the guys testing the Dobinson Coils Shane from Suspension Stuff is referring to. I was a little bit skeptical of these coils at first, but these coils have far surpassed my expectations. I'm very impressed with the coils, the ride quality is amazing and they are by far the best coils I have used in my patrol. As far as Cruiser-Dan referring to his 3" kit, outflexing the 5" kits I'm sure this opinion has changed since the official flex day on the ramp. I got an RTI score of 679 on a 30degree ramp (992 on a 20 degree ramp). Show me a 3" kit that will get those results.

Shane from Suspension Stuff is very professional and provides very helpful advise. I would highly recommend to anyone in the market for coils, to speak with Shane first, as you will find he is very knowledgeable in the field of coil setups and his prices are very very competitive.

Also, a quick review on some products supplied by Mick from Superior Engineering. I'm running a 5" Superior Engineering kit with a super flex radius arm, the results with this kit and their arm have been outstanding also.

The only limiting fact now is the length of the Toughdog 45mm big bore shocks, which i'm looking to replace in the near future.

Looks like one of the better flexin patrols, flex is even front to rear. I would be very happy with a vehicle setup like that.

Good to see that finally there is a spring combo that coupled with a well designed but not over the top front radius arm works at both ends. I have found most kits for patrols focus on the rear too much and not on the front (where it is majorly needed).

If Cruiser Dan had 3" flexy coils on a Patrol then he might be able to out flex 5" kit at the rear because the 29.5" Procomp shocks out flex the longest Tough Dogs. Not in droop but in overall flex. To increase the flex and keep with an adjustable shock you are best off getting Boss adjustable shocks. Coincidently I have the Boss adjustable shocks for sale now for $200 each including freight. (Trade guys please contact me)

It will be good when he gets the 910mm Boss adjustable shocks that will be available Jan/Feb next year. He will then be able to make use of the drop out cones. I have a bit of a write up and picture on the web site on the link below.
