I need to remove the injection pump so I can replace a welsh plug thats behind it.
Can anyone tell me if I can do this safely without affecting the timing? Can I remove and replace without moving anything and will this be ok? The manuals I have give about 5 steps to remove it and there is only 3 bolts holding it to the rear of the timing cover.
A splined shaft goes into the timing gear so I'm hoping this can be done easily enough without dramas.
Anyone with insight into this would be appreciated as I'll be attempting this tonight.
thanks.

Yes its as you describe. Just set in up on no1 tdc, you should see a line on the spline and a 0 on the gear. Put it back in at that spot, note the position of the injection pump line on the housing before removing it.

follow the manual
1-the spline will have a mark/notch on the end of the pump, matchs the one on the gear inside the case
2-the pump body has a mark 2lines which will be together or a small distance apart put it back where you found it
3-when you start it dont rev the engine for 20-30 seconds as the pump needs to fill with oil [will happen very quickly]
apart from that it is very easy
