I was wondering, how could I possibly find out what kind of PTO winch would fit my NL 3500 V6.
I noticed, reading the manual, that a PTO is optional and indeed the transfer case has the PTO side mount. I did search the net for a pajero PTO, but couldn't find anything. I did found a PTO MM winch installation article on a LR Defender and another installation using a ZF74 Power Steering Pump.
This gave me some ideas but I'd like to ask you guys if anyone uses a hydro winch.

At first ZF74 is only power steering pump - low parameters cause sloooowly winching.
There is another solution to fit hydraulic winch in Gen 2 Pajero. As hydraulic power source you can use pump with electromagnetic cluth mounted instead AC compressor. Here is for example Parker CP16:
Ofcourse You can use another pump - Parker is rather expensive. Also ZF74+electromagnetic clutch(for example OGURA) can be used.

If ZF74 is not enough you have to make another setup.
Everything depends from your requirements: speed/power. Every hydraulic winch has a hydraulic motor and hydraulic valves matched to specific performance. Important parameters for hydraulic valves is: maximum pressure and maximum oil flow; for hydrauulic motor is: maximum pressure and oil capacity per 1 turn. You can't exceed maximum pressure in whole hydraulic circuit, but oil flow can be increase(ofcourse not -> infinity) for better speed until maximum value of valves. That is the reason why better option is hydraulic winch with separated valves - you can change valves for bigger versions if you want. Ofcourse you can't forget about right oil cooler.
In next step you have to choose right oil pump matched to rest of circuit. If you have correct pump you have to check maximum power needed for this pump. Pump will be mounted on engine block, instead A/C compressor and will be driven by T-belts from crankshaft pulley. It's very probable that 1 T-Belt(basically for AC compressor) will be not enough so You have to make new pulley for 2 T-belts or mayby more(only "front" thin part of pulley).
