5th gear jumps out

hey all, anyone know what may be wrong with my vit it pops out of gear in high range in 5th only when i ease off the go pedal,its a 2l 97 mod swb if thats any help, any ideas on whats wrong or how to fix the old girl would be great cheers!

5th gear syncro and sliding sleeve and worn and need replacing most likely, as the sliding sleeve is working it's way off the 5th gear and then jumping into nuteral.

To repair it it's a gearbox out job and either replace the gearbox or strip and rebuild the gearbox :cry:

well that sure is a kick to the testies,what would i need to do this gear box rebuild and where would i get it? or is it a whole lot easier to replace the gear box? any idea what prices im looking at??

Buy one off ebay, rebuild your current one yourself, swap the rebuilt one back in, and then you have a spare. I saw one a few weeks ago for $30, there are cheapies out there.

I have done a few sierra one's, never a Vit box.

It is not that hard as 5th is mounted in the extension housing at the back of the box, si you dont have to split the casings.

You can buy a new 5th gear, synchro and bearings as a "kit" from memory, not terribly uncommon.. 5th is the weakest gear in almost all box's and one of the most abused.

cool thanks for the help is there any special tools/ equipment i will need other than a rebulid kit (also who do i see about them??) anyone know if its the same gearbox for the 1.6l as the 2l 4 cyl it seems the 2l hasnt got much info on here about it.
