did a search but i cant seem to find what im looking for. I remember someone discussing what other tanks will fin into a sierra. Mines full of dents and id like to get a bigger capacity one. Was it a carry van tank that bolts right in but sits higher up?
Any help be great

Will the Carry tank fit without a bodylift ?want33s wrote:Carry van is same 40 litres and same fittings but is NOT a bolt in swap.
It is a beautiful fit between the chassis rails if you re-route the exhaust and only just hangs below the rails so HEAPS more ground clearance.

The reason why people use the carry tank, is purely so it will fit with a bodylift so they can get the tank up higher. The carry tank is used as the filler is up higher which makes it easy to reconnect the filler pipe, if you used the sierra tank, you cant connect the filler pipe without either a lot of modifications of chassis rail to do it properly, or a bodge job.
A LWB Vit tank will not fit in a SWB sierra, hell the SWB Vit tanks barely fit without the diff hitting it, and im not even sure thats true, its mighty close in mine.

Making youre own tank would be a nice little project, ive heard 2mm is a good thickness steel to use, basically just make the whole thing out of cardboard templates, cut out the templates and TIG it together, making sure you add baffles, filler neck and filler breather, also breathers at the very top of tank that go to the carbon canister (assuming you still run one) and fuel level sensor, pickups, etc...
As for legality i dont have a clue, someone else will respond, i doubt it is legal without some kind of safety certification.
