Winch Tech - Cant find in search

Post by CWBYUP »

I have a XD9000 here that I want to rebuild and put a 6hp mptor on.

Is there any tricks to putting a breather on it ? Can I just find a spot on the motor that is blank and drill and tap it ?

Also once I have the new compressor set up can I force air into it or will this blow the seal ?

Thanks for the help.

The XD needs a new motor and the 4.6 and the 6 are the same money so want to look at going the 6hp way.

Dont want to mod the bar and am not going to compete with it otherwise thats what I would be doing.

Probably should go that way but changing the bar is to much work.

Thanks anyway champ.

On my himount I think its has a barb tapped into the end of the motor case and the other is on the top or side of the gear box.
Where as for a low mount you would need the second barb tapped into the motor case near the drum.

Or is it possible to tap an air line into the motor end. Then have the air go thru the center of the drum and over/thru the gear box side?

I was thinking of cooling my motor with an air horn compressor that only pumps air while winch motor is running.
I'd fit the air inlet to the bottom of the motor housing so it pushes the hot air out the top. Run the outlet up about 200mm and then bend it 180* so it points down again about 100mm.. Should stop any water or other sh1t getting in.

We do about 20 winch motors a month. For most people just one breather for keeping water out is enough and we go about 1" from the winch end. Looking into the motor there are about 3 obvious places. Pick one that will place the breather in an out of the way place.

Two breathers is good for blowing air through the motor to keep it cool - quite a choice of compressors - air bed pump from camping shops work fine. In this case place air in at bottom edge close to winch and air out at far end on top for extracting hot internal air. Surprising how much carbon dust is emitted from air out. Makes quite a difference.

You may also want to check that the 6hp motor will fit into your bar. They're a bit bigger than the 4.6
