HP from stock 1HD-T turbo???

Post by vn15 »

How much power can you get out of the stock CT26 turbo, it is a 95 mod 1HD-T engine. Gonna do serious mods to it, big exhaust, FMIC, extractors, adj. pump etc..... was thinking of getting a GT30 roller turbo if the stocker is too small.

Ive been able to get 130rwkw. GT30 is too big. The biggest problem I see is head ports being too small.

Thanks heaps :)

What kind of turbo would you reccomend then. I am using it only on road and no towing so some lag isn`t generally a problem so that`s why I thought the GT3071 would be okay :?: I have a turbo called GT2871R0.86AR on my modified GQ, it is a 2.8TD, 12mm plunger, and all the usual mods, + gas and water/meth.

How much power do you want to make and where do you want it?

The power was made with a std turbo.

What sort of mods to achieve this? How many pisseyes you puttin out with the ct26? Was the turbo 100% stock or high flowed? is this achievable with a decent tune, or you talking pump mods, intercooler etc?

Can the heads be ported to improve output?

I understand if you have trade secrets on this but some general details would be good ;)

The only mods I have done now is adjustable boost, currently 15psi, and about one turn clockwise on the fuel adj. screw. No smoke on peak boost. have 35" wheels on it/ 3" lift. No dyno hp/nm, but goes much better than a stocker(31" wheels)

regarding power, 280-300hpwould be nice, is neither a comp.truck nor a tow truck, just want a lot of diesel power, that`s all. it is beeing used only on the road so want power higher up in the rev range than a std. engine. My modified GQ peaks(18psi) at 2800 rpm, and is very good to drive on road, so want the same from my LC80, ie. peak boost at 2800-3000 rpm.

Gonna buy, 3" exhaust/dump, pyro, big FMIC, new roller turbo, more fuel/boost, Exedy clutch. Do you need extractors if you want 280-300hp from it???, if so, I will have one custom made.

thanks so far :)

80's

the vehicle is stock, 31" tyres, 18psi, 3" exhaust, no intercooler. Just fuel adjustments and injector mods.

Vn, getting 300hp, I don't know. Its hard on a td42, I think it will be harder with a 1hdt. The pump wont have enough fuel to do that, even tho it already has a 12mm h&r, its not the one that works the best.

An extractor exhaust may help, only one way to find out. A Gt2876 will do the job, but will be laggy.

Yes porting heads helps with airflow, the more air in and out the more fuel, the more power.

Is 15psi on a 1HDT with no intercooler a tad dangerous? Like reguarding egt's? Being a 95 model is that the last of the 1HDT? Thats the year they indrodiced the 1HD-FT isnt it?

I recently had my factory turbo (1HDT, CT26) fitted with a bigger compressor wheel and had it high flowed. I was originally running a Turbo smart boost controller. With the controller turned all the way down it would peak at 14psi. Then i was told without an intercooler it was too much boost! I have now removed the controller until i get a FMIC. She now it peaks at 11psi.

Dzltec is 14 psi too much with no cooler on a 1HDT? I did not plan on adjusting the fuel and having it all tuned until i have my front mount installed. Only reason i liked it running at 14psi is because it cleaned up the smoke.

Okay, so max. 250hp then at the flywheel??, otherwise you need to remove the fuel pump and have it modified to flow more???, if I understand you correct.

I thought a modified 1HD-T could match a ditto TD42, but not so

It is not that many comp trucks with 1hd-T around, but one kiwi truck with a turboed/intercooled 1HZ was putting out around 210rwhp, should be 280hp at the flywheel.

Anyway thanks for all answers

cheers Andy. Have you had any reliability issues running 18psi with the ct26? general consensus seems to be ct26 is good for 15psi max

Running at 18 psi hasn't hurt it yet, but I am doing it at my own RISK. It has en egt guage fitted, on hot days it does get hot. If i was to measure inlet temps it will probably be very hot. Its more so an experiment to see whats what.

Vn, it must have been a tuff 1hz, thats over 150rwkw. At the end of the day you will need lots of air and lots of fuel. Anything can be done, it just takes time and money. Im sure 150 rwkw is a realistic goal.

1HDT engines run 11psi as standard. Its in your hands if you want to go higher.

Andy... how would it go full noise up Canterbury Rd hill (Heatherdale Rd up to Mitcham/Boronia) or Boronia Road (Dandenong Creek up to Canterbury Rd) in the middle of summer... legal speeds of course :D

Id assume that allot of time has been spent matching boost to fuel delivery and removing allot of intake/exhaust restriction to be able to reliably run such boost... or do you more drive by applyng throttle based on EGT readings?
Cheers,
Dan.
