i have a cage question for those ppl in the know.

I have heard that the CAMS and CCDA cages are different and each wont accept the other.

i saw also that a couple of guys (sandy bowman may have been one) did the condo 750 this year.

so am i hearing wrong or has CCDA allowed aproved CAMS cages??

It just that i keep hearing that CCDA wont accept CAMS cages.

CAMS cages are more regulated then CCDA and can be more compicated depends on the vehicle also some cams events can be more or less risky than CCDA

For this reason some CCDA approved cages will not pass a CAMS inspection

As far as i'm aware CCDA will accept CAMS spec Role Over Protection Systems (ROPS) most my cages are built to CAMS so owners could do both type of racing

Cams cages are accepted by CCDA,

CAMS cages are built to specifications but can be built so that they do not meet CCDA (ie a CAMS 4 point will not CCDA Challenge Class requirements).

Providing the CAMS cage is at least that of CCDA requirements all is good.

There isn't a lot between them. the cams specs are pretty simple as are the CCDA. My buggy will bass both.

I agree. The specs are minimum standards only. I think you will find most people who are serious put extra in anyway.

When I eventually put a cage in mine it will be built to the absolute minimum as I plan on running an exo as well. The old Lux is going to be a heavy bitch with two cages.

I did my last truck like you said as I had an exo too.

as for the weight. I have just build a full internal high Cams spec cage in a 400hp carolla drift car. It weighs 40kg (calculated) 2.4mm TIG welded DOM. 44.5 main hoop, 38mm everything else. thinner wall on lesser areas (1.6mm)

includes main hoop, a pillar bars, roof diagonal, x brace in main hoop, harness bars, side intrusion x's, rear stays, lower rear stays, etc

I'll get some pics over the weekend.

Other thing to note is there are levels of cams specs. Drift for example is the lowest, no cage / lap sash - off road racing the highest 5 point full cage.
