Marks v's Dellow
Howdy all,
I am in the near future putting a injected chev 350 out of a Camero into my GQ race rig.
I was settled on a Marks kit until i heard that there were some 'alignment' issues with the conversion, im guessing in regards to the engine to input shaft area.
To this end i was told to go for a Dellow as that is the direction all of the top blokes are going? Is this so?
Also if you know anyone with a Marks or a Dellow kit in a GQ could you put up a pic or a link to pics so i can have a squiz.
Not too many people in Sth Oz have done this so i am a bit baron on ideas down here.
Cheers for ya help fella's, i want to do this once and get it right the first time, which is why im gathering info now!
Steve.

I got a Marks kit in my shorty with the 5ltr, and the kit was pretty easy to install, i just had a few troubles getting the right clearance between the pressure plate and the throw out bearing, but a couple of phone calls to marks and it was all sorted, would have no problem using another kit from them if i was to do it again.....
Would put up a pic.. but im in Townsvile and the cars on the Goldie, and the zoom on my camera just aint that good...

I put 351 clevo in a 60 series using mark's a few years ago now. They sent the wrong engine mounts but were very apologetic and sent the right ones. Also the engine brackets never really seemed to fit right. Ended up having to space one side across 10mm. They blamed the car for being in an accident which it wasn't been.
Have done two 5.0 conversions into 4 Runners using marks, bellhousings are outstanding,
Their pre and after sales support suck and you will be sold a heap of parts you don't need if you are not careful. They don't know how to specify their own product.
I wont rant though, because what other choices are there.
Cheers

That was also the experience of a friend of mine - the parts joined the major mechanical bits ok but the things that weren't mentioned /supplied were a killer. There seemed to be an assumption by Marks that because it fitted one model, it would fit an earlier one which turned out not to be exactly true.Struth wrote:Their pre and after sales support suck and you will be sold a heap of parts you don't need if you are not careful. And didn't get much assistance after the money had been spent.
So it wasn't really a quality issue - more poor sales.
( usual disclaimers )
It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

There are little things like the clutch fork pivot from a V6 not fitting their bellhousing, when you let them know they simply say you must be wrong because no one else has ever had this issue (I have had it twice now, but was prepared the second time) Or being sold a clutch master cylinder for the V6 to V8 conversion and working out yourself that you can't use it, instead you have to sleeve down the slave cylinder.MightyMouse wrote:That was also the experience of a friend of mine - the parts joined the major mechanical bits ok but the things that weren't mentioned /supplied were a killer. All we were doing was offering positive feedback to helpfully help the next buyer not suffer that horrible moment where the conversion has to stop because of something this simple.
I think you may have nailed it with their assumption that what fits one model will fit the next. It's lazy really.
Cheers

Twin Turbo V8 80 Series Ute with Extra Bits
I had to but 2 kits from marks as they changed the design off the first one that didnt really work the new kit is ok but i would go a different brand next time without even seeing it because it couldnt be any worse than marks. There quality was not great there instructions were non existant and basically they do it once on a gq with a 4.2 gearbox and then they make a kit to suit every model and gearbox veriation. They pissed me off.
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.
i have done both on a gq, a 351 ford with dellow & a 454 chev with marks, & i would never deal with dellow again, shit engine mounts & service.
cheap looking bellhousing to close to the firewall,
the marks kit is alot better made (it looks like they put some effort into it)
im very happy with it & great service too...
