Hey Guys,
I'm looking at purchasing a GQ Patrol LWB and want a 6" suspension lift with no body lift and rang around a fair few places in VIC and im looking at $4,000 installed or $2800 on its own... could this be right?
Everyone that I've spoken too does not reccomend it for a street registered car for legalities which doesnt bother me but also because they strongly say the ride will be compltetly shit which is bothering me a bit as im planning on going on a 5,000km + holiday early next year around some parts of australia

I previously had a GQ Shorty (my avator) which had a 3" suspension and 2"body lift aswell as 35" Baja Claws but that still wasnt high enough for me and I want something bigger.
I saw a GQ LWB at Outback 4x4 in Bayswater and that had 35's and a 6" suspension lift and that was a size that I would be looking at.
Then I was thinking of getting a 4" lift and 2" lift but heaps and heaps of people recommend me NOT getting a Body Lift as its an old car and chances are that were the blocks go may go through the actual body.
I'm going round Australia next year and want 35's and the lift for clearance etc as I'm planning on going bush for some parts.
I already have the 35" tyres (the MT Baja Claws i had on the Shorty).
One of the guys told me that with a 6" suspension lift it creates bad vibration so wondering if anyone with the same lift can clarify this?

people always complain about the driveability of vehciles with a 6" lift because they only do the job half arsed in the first place.
if you are going to put a 6" lift in a swb GQ, ( or any vehicle for that matter) you have to increase the TRACK width to compensate for the increase in COG.
chuck some 2" wheel spacers on with the lift and some bunnings flares, and you will be AMAZED at the difference in driveability it makes,

The 35" Baja Claws that I have here from my previous patrol are on 15x8's with a reversed rim/offset so they sit like a 10" wide rim so on the standard GQ body without flares they stuck out around 2-3" so I think these rims I have will be perfect for what you have mentioned.
Where and what brand of lift kit do people reccomend and where to get it?

Yeah Kiwi I asked them and 1 of the 4 shops said they've never done one that big.
The other 3 have done it but one of them reccomend I do a 4" spring 2" body as it will significally reduce vibration but refused to install the body lift cause of the reason in my first post.
I dont understand, I've seen soooo many registered Patrol's for sale in the past 3-4months with 6" spring lifts that i was suprised from the response i got from shops when I was asking for quotes....

There are a lot of people on here that bag big lifts but I say go for it and $4000 is a good price
Mine cost $5500 fitted but that was all the gear drive in drive out
And there is there thing were 4wd shops wont fit big lifts and I am sure it is because they don’t have the confidence to give you the warranty then you drive out of there shed
As they are not sure them selves that they have set it up properly
If you were willing to drive to nsw my mechanic would do it for you
And with a 5" lift in mine it drives down the freeway at up to 130km/h no problem like it was standard you just have to be willing to spend the $ on it and not cut corners
