Jeeps and Re-sale Value??

Post by BrentE »

Why are there so many jeep wranglers being sold with such low Kilometres like around 50-100,000 ??

Do the gearbox go early in them or something? or parts too hard to get maybe?

alot of the time they trade them in and upgrade, i am currently selling my tj wrangler its an 01 model with 79000 on the clock. i used if heaps but had it in storage for a few years while travelling. alot have also ugraded to the bigger jk for family reasons. ive never had gear box trouble or anything. my first tj was a lease car so when the lease ran out i sold it and it only had 60000 on the clock. all depends on the individual resons

i think lots of people get rid of tj's because they suck too much fuel for their size and these days it's not cheap to keep them topped up.

and people get annoyed with having no space for anything, so upgrade to the JK or XJ

Yeah I also reckon it's a space / fuel thing. I've had mine since 2000 .. love it to death.. but if i was to over night get a family or suddenly have a need to tow something... Then I would probably have to sell and getting something more suited to that.

In the mean time.. I'm still wheeling.

Watch the oil colour in the back diff, they have a habit of destroying the plates, and no limited slip, and a 3k fix up.

Will happen within the 3yr warranty period if you use her a bit.
If it breaks, excellent, time for an upgrade

x2, mine had a rear lsd replaced under warranty but i don't go around calling other forum member fukwits... that's not cool...

Anyhows... BrentE, the main reason is because most are owned by city or beach folk and they don't do long drives. I've had mine since new for 7 years and i've only done 100,000klm because it's the weekend toy but usually only goes out once or twice a month.

I've had my XJ for 6 years and done 140,000km on it. It's not a daily driver so the majority of that is offroad or getting there with the odd long trip in it, Cairns once, Flinders once, Fraser 3 times, VIC trips once the rest around NSW. I've broken a rear axle but had no problems with the plates in the LSD getting destroyed. The XJ also runs the weaker D35 compared to the D44 in the TJ.

Cheers

First diff was dun in at around 70k, the second about 30k, both vehicles copped a real flogging, I love 4wdin and do it as often as possible, like, daily.

I live 10 mins from giant sandhills, rocky trails, and go out playing most every day.

I love jeeps (wranglers), have two suzis at the mo, but their weakness is the back diff. My next jeep will be a Rubicon early next year, its not LSD so hope its fine.
