oil leak from sump?
Hey Guys,
I noticed an oil leak from my oil sump, I just wanted to know if its just a gasket to replace there? or do i just apply a sealant around it?

Hmmm- you too......
No gasket on sump, silicone inserts over bearing caps not crazy about the whole system but if mine wasn't leaking I might think differently.
Leak from the distributor drive is pretty common as well and looks very similar from the underneath so check first.
Could be rear main of course - but neither of us want to consider that option.

Did you check the seal surface of the crankshaft when you were replacing the seal ? If its scored then its just going to keep chewing out seals. Sometimes you can leave the seal hanging out - or press it in further so it runs on a non worn bit of the crank....
But as posted earlier the rubber insert that straddles the rear main is also a very average design - so it could also be that. Lots of silicone is the answer.
Whilst I haven't tried it, if you drop the front diff you should be able to pull the sump with the engine in the car and reseal the sump and inserts... but that's a guess not a fact so don't hold me to it......
