Depending on how mechanically minded you are and how much time you have on your hands, you could always build one, if yu google it the kits should come up, from memory they are about 15k plus the donor rangie which if you get an 88 or something you'd be looking at like 2k, then there is lights and paint and assecorys like bars sliders etc... thats why most i've seen for sale as a finished product are up around the 40-50k mark depending on what sort of stuff has been fitted.

The upside of doing it yourself is you know how everything goes and you can tailor it to your own tastes

Contact Rovercraft in WA they should be able to give some information.

DAKAR won't sell bodies or parts to Australians except Dave Rowland due to copying of the original by John Davis.

I don't know what the situation with dakars is now, after the unfortunate death of Steve. I haven't heard if anyone else has taken over the manufacture of them.

Certainly Steve would not supply to Aus as zuffen said.

John Davis was still making Bush Rangers up to a year or 2 back - I don't know the current situation.

Last i heard JD had moved to Dubai and was building vehicles for an oil barron. This would have to be more than 2 years ago though.

I took delivery of a set of Dakar flares today.

Dave at Rovacraft organised it for me and I collected them from their Sydney branch.

The price was pretty good.

They were ordered in August to a particular colour so someone is still making them.

I heard Barry Chantler (the guy who designed and built the Dakar) stepped back in to keep the show running but I could be wrong.

Try Rovacraft as they will get it to Austrlaia cheaper than you can and no doubt will buy at a better price than you can.

You won't know if you don't ask.

Rhino tried hard to get the kits, but the builder in the UK would not cooperate.

Christ if it was that easy why di I pay JDM a shitload of money to build mine?

Because it was cheaper ($ and time) than building my own.

Find out what a kit will cost as it will cost you a minimum of $20,000 to turn out a body/rollcage that is anything like a Dakar and it won't be reinforced in the right places to hold it together.

You may save a little up front but resale will be non-existant.

I understand John Davis (who is currently in Australia) has 2 or 3 for sale.

He could be contacted through his brother Bruce.

Sorry that I can't answer.

Probably more than he should and in less condition than you would prefer but they will be much cheaper than building your own given the current exchange rate.

I saw one on ebay about a year ago but have not seen one since. This one was about 4 to five years old and he wanted 30k for it. Hope this gives you some idea.
