im looking for my first car, it must be a 4x4, the 3 cars im looking at are 'suzki vitara' 'diahtsu feroza' and a '2dr swb patrol', i just want to no wat some poeples views are on these cars, which would be good to be a first car ya no :D ??????????????????

Vitara's are OK but eat CV's when pushed hard.
Feroza's are Ok too but there's practically no aftermarket support for them.
SWB Pootrols are a lot dearer to run and repair.(than the other 2)

First off, how about giving us some more info?? There's different horses for different courses, so the more info you give us, the better we can answer the question for you.

What about these:
- Do you want manual or auto?
- Petrol or diesel?
- Do you need to tow with it?
- Do you need to carry passengers in it?
- How long do you intend to keep it?
- What is your budget?
- What sort of 4x4ing do you plan on doing (comp, touring, general use)?

The most important thing for you to remember - there is NO SUCH thing as the perfect 4x4. They all excel in different areas - you just need to pick the one that suits best.

So...you're saying a stock vitara is really more capable than a stock
SWB GQ? Remembering 'capable' applies to a broad spectrum of offroad situations (since the OP hasn't given any specifics)

I'll be honest - i've never driven or been wheeling with a stock vitara or stock GQ! Does such beasts exist?

Nothing un-capable about a feroza fool :roll:

On par, prolly better than a vitara, but thats an un-educated opinion somewhat ( do vits have low range, for instance?)
And feroza's look to have better approach/departure angle.

Anyhow, out of the three you've picked. I'd go SWB patrol for offroad work, Vitara for driving on the beach and going to the supermarket, and the feroza for offroad work, followed by garage work for a few weeks while you repair it :D

They tend to have a 'weak' drive train, particularly the gearbox. And after market mods, practically don't exist. Aftermarket parts are there but a little harder to find.

thanks guys for dissing my name im a girl is that hard to believe. Its "amanda" okay and i may have had some typo errors no need ta be smart arses im just asking for advice.
well thanks for all your responses but it think im going to go for the zook ay.
i want a 1994 model hardtop vitara.
ive got $6500 and thisll be myu first eva car and i cant wait to do it up and take it off road and to the beach.

i dont no much about 4wds but i no i love them and i love 4wding and the more i learn bout them the more im interested. my bf recommended me to this site to ask the poeple on here ur point of view on the car i want, alot of pll on here no alot.

Otherwise welcome to the forum. I'd go a sierra over a vitara personally, but at the same time the Vits a chicky car so prolly a good choice.

Of the three, I'd be looking at a Vitara 5 door wagon. Cheap to mod, quite capable in the rough, decent performance on the sand and easy to drive.

My first car is my Suzuki Sierra, have had it nearly 4 years now. Do not regret buying it for a minute. I looked at Vitaras and Ferozas also, and I'm glad I went with the Sierra. Yes it is the most uncivilised of the lot, but I couldn't give a rats; it does what I want and does it well.

My thoughs too. Though if you want a more capable offroad car with mroe potential, a sierra would be better. From what you described, a 5 door vitara would suite you quite well. Unlike the Feroza, these have excellent aftermakret support (feroza has none). Have a read through the suzuki section, check the bibles.

Personally I wouldn't choose the Feroza due to lack of support. The Patrol and the Vitara both have pretty good aftermarket support. I have limited experience/knowledge of Patrols so I shall talk to you about Vitara's. As mentioned read my post on what to look for when buying one and that will give you a good basic understanding.

I have had both swb and lwb. The plus for the lwb is 5 doors instead of 3 doors if you need them. The ride is a bit better due to the lwb. The fuel tank is larger, 42l in the swb & 55l in the lwb. The lwb has more space in the back. All the lwb came with efi and the option of a 4 speed auto. The early swb only had the carby engine and a 3 speed auto (no overdrive) option. The later (late '94 on) swb got the efi engine and the option of a 4 speed auto.

If you are doing sand work then I would suggest that the Vitara would be a better choice over the Patrol due to it's lighter weight. Personally if it's just for you and maybe one other then I'd go the swb as I think they look better and they have a better rampover angle although the lwb will climb better. I also think autos are better offroad, especially in the sand.

A swb with the 16v efi engine and 4 speed auto with an Old Man Emu suspension, some 235/75R15 tyres and a rear locker will get you a lot places but won't look obvious around town. Of course there are other options available but it is a pretty nice and reliable starting point imho.

If it was me, and im a mechanic, i would buy a 5 door 2.5 v6 automatic vitara, unstopable 'almost' on the beach, easy to drive, plenty of room, and enough power to keep you out of trouble. Feroza's imho ar'nt the best of cars let alone 4wd's and you dont want a patrol for your first car, to thirsty and expensive to maintain and keep on the road.
