Moderator: Tiny
turbo fez any out there?
hows things was wanting to know if anyone has turbo a fez?
if so what has been done ie computer injectors etc and what kind of turbo off what vehicle as well
any info would be good as im looking at doing it to mine if its cheapish

Hello and flashback
F300 HD turbo t25 stock in’er ripped it out thow. My setup was unreliable still got the manifold throw if yore interested hi mount style set to a t25 flange, 1 and 3 joined 2 and 4 joined outer .
Didn’t think it was that good until I polled it off .but I’m happier with out it e.g. “unreliable”in my case and sum pinging at the top of 3rd at only 4 to 5 psi

did you do anything to the injectors and or computer, also id only be running 3-5 psi through it just to give it a little bit of a help along
i have heard that these motors are prone to cooking heads when running a turbo did you have any cooling troubles or did you run a intercooler?

I just don't think they are a good candidate for forced aspiration without LOTS of expensive work. Sure they can be supercharged or turbocharged but I've come to the conclusion that for my money its just not worth it.
The motors design is nothing special, they overheat at the drop of a hat, poor combustion chambers, thin rods, single cam etc etc etc...
By the time you spend all the $$ to get it right you may as well start out with a decent engine in the first place.
And if its actually going off road ( which is probably unlikely I admit ) then its going to break transmissions instantly, has no gears, no lockers so why even bother ?

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

this is my 2nd fez and the other one only gave up because i had a little oops and bent the chassis going hoe one night, it will be going offroad just not hardcore (have project hardrock for that) the old one never blew a gearbox or tcase just chewed out front diffs and i drive with an extremely heavy right foot, so the gear box and tcase gets my tick of aproval and many others for strength.
it was the over heating that i was worried about with running a turbo, but would it over heat that badly only running 3-5 psi through it boosting at the higher revs for open road driving?
sorry for the spelling has something to do with the alcohol intake for the eveming and the fact that i just walked home in a stinking cold southerly (snow forecast to below 400m) in rugby shorts and a tshirst ( it was warm when i left home this morn 8am now 2.30 am)

Actually both......
Have lost interest in the "H" series engines, can be made to work but for my $$ its just too hard. I've run Detomaso, turbo and supercharged "H" series and its just all too fragile for my liking.
Its just an average engine IMO.
And the Feroza powertrain just isn't up to it as well. The gearbox and transfer is fragile at the best of times and off road its not power that limits the Feroza ( except on sand ).
So its a global generalization really, for all the work required to get a good H powered off road Feroza there are better ways.
This is my opinion of course - each to their own, but I'm heading down a different path for the Mouse.

*Ahem*
Care to elaborate?
I was looking forward to seeing yours running with the turbo Ross... Ican appreciate the conclusion you've come to, and I am interested in the plan.
G16B Vitara motor? Bwahahaha
Steve.

Goverened by gearbox largely - I'm not overly keen on adapter plates, they are generally difficult to do well.
A small capacity V6 is the current option - the 2.5 KLZE is a good engine but may have to fall back to the Suzuki 2.5 for the above reasons
They started out as the same joint project between Mazda and Suzuki but over the years have diverged significantly.
The KL's gear driven camshafts appeal as does the higher output 163kW - but its not easy to find what interchanges on the current developed engines. Mazda continued to develop the engine - whereas Suzuki stayed largely with what they had - and its issues.
The current Suzuki V6 is the GM High Feature V6 - and I could build a mean 2.5 ltr one of them with direct petrol njection heads etc etc, but once again the belhousing....
What to do... What to do.

If you have the diff clearance - 3RZ 2.7 hilux? (they are tall)
A little bit coarse due to all the stroke but uber torquey, and would have to be an easier fit than a V6.
Just an idea.
Oh, and I heard some guy built a single rotor rotary for an LJ50 once - hmmm....
Steve.

Tall is not cool, and 112kW doesn't push the boundary very far - although the torque would be useful.
Unfortunately the rotaries are getting a bit long in the tooth to be feasible, use too much fuel and the high exhaust temps present a bit of an off road fire hazard. And it almost got me once before.....
Perhaps a VQ35DE..... - now that would be worth the adaption, but $$$.

True, 112KW isn't going to set the world alight, but these motors are typically toyota strong and some amazing numbers have been pulled out of these motors under boost.
We've had a bunch of these motors at work and even with poor service history, multiple rough drivers, even a 300,000km the motors are sound.
I'd still vote to run a tape measure over one, it might still be easier to fit a tall 4 in than a 6. you do have a BL, and whilst some of these motors have crossover pipes over the motor, not all do.
I haven't driven a VQ but I'm sure it would do the job quite nicely
I was joking about the rotary... honest.

Referring to the power its o k, it is a feroza after all. in my case Referring to the power again it all or unthinking .and it seams to be all or unthinking when it comes to power mods .ill wait till i can put the feroza on a swb rock frame, v 6 and hilux axels. even then all that work and then your no better than sum stock 4x4s.i’d still like to do it. daihatsu that’s who
MM runs an AW-4 auto so he has lots of bellhousing options before he has to get out the bandsaw.2roky wrote:for the bellhousing would it be an option to just cut the oldone off the gear box and weld the new one on to it. heard of it being done to other boxes not sure what ones though.
