No spark in hilux

put a test light on the - of the coil and see if its "switching" as u crank it. should start flashing. if it flashin it means the points or module (on electronic system) is doing its job telling the coil when to fire indicating a coil. should be constant power on the positive side with the ignition on. if u have run a wire from the - strait to earth u have probably cooked your coil. have access to a timing light??? most have dwell meters to better set points gap u can have someone crank engine over with the cap off and adjust as it spins (works better with the plugs out) did you give the points a clean with some brake cleaner and rag etc before u put them in?? are u testing for spark with a s/plug or just seing if it will shoot out the lead cos sometimes it can jump that far!!!!! test to see if its switching and then it will narrow it down for u
there is and was on the original coil a lead running from the neg terminal to the body. when testing for spark i had the plug out and in the lead earthed out on the block

ok the issue is all sorted. had it looked at when the car went back to the workshop to repair some dodgy work.
apparently the coil was wired backwards but myself and a few others don't seem to know how it could be wired backwards and have been running like a dream for months.
anyone got any ideas.
guys at the workshop can't explain.
