VL fuel pump noisy
VL fuel pump noisy
Just finished 1.6 TBI conversion, very towey.replaced the pump cause it was noisy, but the new one isnt much better.
runs from tank to LP filter then to LP pump then HP pump then HP filter then check valve then TBI unit.
some of the rubber hose does some fairly tight turns, but not pinched.
Even thought of putting pump in a sound insulated box, but thought it might get hot.
ANY IDEAS
thanks

remove the the LP filter.
My mate runs a filter before his Vl pump and its noisy as.
edit: mine is pretty quiet, however since i have upped the pressure in the fuel line with a pressure regulator it is a little louder.

My VL pump is noisey too, but runs fine. You can try to insulate the pump to avoid noise transfer into the body if its annoying in the cab. Funnily enough, PYRO's VL pump was very quiet when i did his EFI swap.

no filter b4 the pump, but i am going to be putting one in very soon.smileysmoke wrote:hows yours setup pyro? did you install it with any rubber insulation type washer to minimise noise? is there a filter in front of it.. etc?
cheers
the pump uses 1/2 of the original mount form the VL, the pump is the wrapped in insertion rubber, with a home made clamp on it, il try to grab some pix for you

Re: VL fuel pump noisy
My VL pump is quiet. You can just notice it when it gets really low on fuel and has to suck harder to get the fuel up out of the tank.wildmouse wrote:runs from tank to LP filter then to LP pump then HP pump then HP filter then check valve then TBI unit.
I only run the HP pump, no LP, so maybe your LP pump isn't pumping enough volume for the HP pump, causing it to cavitate?
You could try bypassing the LP pump to see if that helps.
Mounting could also have a lot to do with it. Mine is mounted to the chassis using the factory foam rubber insulator and a clamp. If it was hard mounted to your body it would amplify any noise.
