hey all, im lookin at getting a 96 sierra. Just wondering weather one would survive a 9 hour drive out to a farm. Im looking at getting one and putting bigger muddies on it so it revs lower at high speeds. Anyone whos got someting to say feel free as i need as much info as posible.
Coil or leaf? 96 is the changeover year.
Regardless, if you put bigger tyres on it you'll loose 5th gear (it won't hold speed in 5th) so you'll be revving harder in 4th gear, not lower. Sierra's don't have enough torque under 3500rpm to deal with a bigger tyre, that's why everyone changes the gearing and chases 1.6's etc.
A sierra in good mechanical order is reliable and won't have any problem with a long highway drive.

If you want to use the car for 4WDing, you'd be better with a leaf sierra. If you place a high priority on on road/gravel road performance, buy a vitara - they cruise much better.
Coil sierras aren't suzuki's best work and are still worth too much money 2nd hand IMHO - they shouldn't really be worth any more than a leaf car. Basiclly, a vitara is a better buy than a coil sierra.

just this one has done to many kms, infact every vitara i seen has done more kms than a sierra of same age or lesser.

Try and get one with aircon if you can, although I'm not sure how effective aircon is in a soft top. Mine's got AC and I don't know how others do without it!
I did 650km in mine the other day (30 degrees outside) with a half hour break at the 3 hour mark and had quite a comfortable trip. Wasn't hot, sore, tired or grumpy at the end of it. Was a decent road though ... not many bumps ... and no cross winds which makes a huuuuge difference. Get on a B-grade road or a decent cross wind and a leaf sprung Sierra can be a handfull.

Nope, you want to use more of your $9K budget and get an EFI one (after 1994) they are a billion times better.

iv got a 96 coily with 200,000 on it and just went away 2 weeks ago, it was a 7 hour drive each way,me and my dad and the back packed to the roof with fridge draw system etc and it went Heep's good,sat on 110,120 the hole way with 30inch tyer and only stopped for fuel, never had a problem, you shouldn't have a problem if it has been looked after, i was lucky i brought mine of a retired mechanic who owned it from new so it was very good mechanically.
