I've got a '98 40th anniversary model and it has no remote, just the key central locking. Been looking at an alarm with the central locking as part of it.

Toyota optioned a security system with this model or it was srd on sahara. You can have installed an aftermarket one that will do thesame...even some imobilisers do central locking.

Toyota have a universal central locking kit that was used on a few models. it comes with wireing instructions for an 80. Its not the ultimate c/locking but it has a toyota badge on the remotes. about $100 from memory.

$100 from Toyota?

That sounds a bit far fetched, have you got a part number?

Just get an alarm with the central locking control wires. Then you wire this up into the drivers side kick panel. There are two wires (one to open and one to close) which you connect to the alarm. It's basically wired up to the switch you have on the armrest of the drivers door to open and lock the car.

I cant find the book that came with it. I know i would have kept it as it has the wireing diagram and how to program new remotes.
I'll have a better look and let you know if i find it.

i put in a mongoose alarm, model 80 or something to that extent. worked brilliantly.

i have 2 ac delco batteries in the car, i had no end of problems with batteries going flat. even down below 7v for maybe a day or 2 not being driven. pulled the alarm out and more problems. stupid thing, i hate car alarms now, although i wouldn't mind a simple remote door lock again

I just finished installing a Warlock remote central locking system i bought from JB Hifi

Very easy to install.. just connected it to two wires in the drivers door and then earth and 12v power.. very easy..

HOWEVER... my system has the ability to flash the lights when you lock/unlock.. as well as make the horn go..I dont know how to wire this up and the instructions that came with the system were very light on..

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this please...

Talking central locking in the 80 mine doesn't work properly. When you shut the drivers door you hear 2 clicks like the locking trys to lock but then unlocks again, however the buttons do not move. If you use the switch on the drivers armrest it seems to work but if you use the key in the door it does not work. I repalced the controller in the door as I had a spare but it didn't change anything. Is this just an adjustment issue on the drivers actuator. I had a quick look but it looks involved to get at so haven't ventured too far in there yet.

if you flick the switch on inside of ddor then all the doors lock. if you use key in drivers door or passenger door, i'm pretty sure it only locks those doors respective doors only. i may be wrong, had a few beers. hmmm, beer

That doesn't explain the double clicking and I noticed today that when I get in the car after opening the drivers door with the key that whn I close it and it does te double click thing it does sometimes unlock all doors.

As far as teh key only unlocking the drivers door then how can they call it central locking. I'm sure it should work as expected via the drivers door and key.

double clicking. umm, don't know. still central locking, its central locking from switch inside drivers door. can't honestly remember if it works from key on outside, been ages since i tried. pretty sure that key on outside passenger door won't lock/unlock all doors

Most early cars did not function from passenger door but I'm sure it should function from drivers door via key.

Yes I had the same trouble when I hooked up the keyless entry in the 80. For those that have done it successfully what wires did you hook up to. I cannot get it to work properly, have had no end of trouble with it. Tried wiring in at the switch and also down at the control box. Would be great to be able to sort it out.

Which two wires. are they extras or did you splice in? if you spliced, which ones? any advice would be great.

Ok i connected the 2 wires from the system to the blue/black and blue/yellow wires.

Im pretty sure it didnt matter which way i wired it... but after playing with it for about a week i have worked out that for some reason the door lock button .. the one near the power window switch... no longer works.. i dont know why but it has no effect at all...

will have to look and play i think

still no idea with the lights though..
