To jimny or not to jimny
To jimny or not to jimny
Alright so I'm tired of my Pajero and her petrol drinking ways, when you do 800+kms a week you cant afford something that gets 600kms to 90 litres
The jimny has recently caught my eye and due to me having a soft spot for suzuki's since my first car which was a baleno was sadly written off I'd really like to get one of these. Got a few questions and information on these is pretty hard to find.
Firstly, how bad are they to drive, I hear alot that they are incredibly unstable on the roads, especially after a lift. Comfort wise I'm not that fussed, I dont give two shits on if the rides rough or not as long as the seats are good.
Secondly, can you get removable hard tops for the soft tops? Wind noise shits me to tears and I wouldn't mind a soft top. I'm a bit of an audiophile so I'll be doing interior deadening.
Road noise, how bad are these things at 110+, I do alot of freeway driving and just want to know if its a little unbearing.
Other then that if anyone has anything else to offer I'd love to hear it.
Cheers

After spending some time in the ex missus Jimny I can tell you they have alot of the benifits of a sierra but alot less of the negatives. Her's is a hard top but I can say it is alot quieter, uses less fuel, rides more comfortable, and handles better than a sierra of similar modifications. Her's has a 60mm tough dog lift and 235/75 tyres and twin arb lockers, with these mods it embarrases mates patrols but it can't quite keep up with my sierra which is more modified but only rear locked.

Cheers for that mate, I'm really wanting to go hardtop if possible but willing to leave my options open.GRPABT1 wrote:After spending some time in the ex missus Jimny I can tell you they have alot of the benifits of a sierra but alot less of the negatives. As for some of the serious offroad stuff I'm not quite there yet. I've only had my pajero for about 6 months and had 2 outings on it. So I'm still pretty young, wanna get out there a bit more when I get it running again.
How does the Jimny handle freeway work? sitting at 110+ I'm guessing it doesn't struggle at these speeds provided your through the gears a bit
I have a jimny soft top and the little thing is great fun i thought they are ok on the road and road noise is not that bad until u put 31's on and a 4'' lift. it is a little bit unstable with the lift and stuff but put castor correction in and it almost feels like you just brought a brand new one

Well stock they do rev alot at 100-110kph (about 4000rpm) but they don't mind that. The ex's does about 3500 now on 100-110kph on the 235's and still has heaps more. I was sitting on 110kph (real) and she was sitting on 110-115kph (on her speedo which is out cause of the tyres) and she was leaving me for dead just the other day. So I'd say it'd be able to cruise on 120-130 easily with 235's and a dead stock motor and running gear. It is willing to take not that squick reckons they do take well to a good full exhaust and extractors.Harreh wrote:Cheers for that mate, I'm really wanting to go hardtop if possible but willing to leave my options open.GRPABT1 wrote:After spending some time in the ex missus Jimny I can tell you they have alot of the benifits of a sierra but alot less of the negatives. Yeah I think the only reason the Jimny's no good for me is towing, didn't really put too much thought into that. Having said that I only really tow about 400kg 3-4 times a year. Too poor to go to the race track too often, I have two expensive hobbies now. Motorbikes and now I'm getting into 4x4. GARGH!
Thanks for all the great advice, gonna go with the Grand Vitara 2 door, they arent as expensive second hand as I thought, will try and get the V6 I think. Definately wanna stick with another Suzuki.
It seems to be a Suzuki owner thing, every zook owner I know loved their zook and always wants another one. My baleno was a great car, too bad it had an untimely death :(

In some markets the swb Vit got the 2.0 V6 but as said the swb GV never had a V6 although it has been swapped in later.Harreh wrote:
