SWB tub onot LWB chassis? mwb?
SWB tub onot LWB chassis? mwb?
I assume that the shorty tub will mount onto the lwb body.. but what i mainly want to know is..: is it possible to make a mwb chassis from a lwb one?
my goal is to keep my swb tub and cage as there is alot of money and time in it.. but i want a longer wb as 33's on a shorty is a little scary..
and i'm pretty sure that the swb tub on the lwb will look silly and just not be right.. but what if i move the rear axle forward and chop the back of the chassis of.. achieving a mwb... with the rear axle about 6" rearward of the standard swb...?
then I'm thinking i'll have to cut the rear of my tub off and weld it up as a ute and then build a tray to suit the rear of the cage.
is that possible? making sence?

so you want to change a lwb chassis to fit a swb tub? So you are just making a swb.
A swb tub will not just bolt onto a lwb frame as the rear wheel tubs wont line up because the wheelbase is different. Modifying a lwb chassis by moving the wdiffs back 6" will basically make it a swb again

if you really want to do some work, how about stretching the tub in the wheel wells at both front and rear for more tyre room
none of the mounting points would line up, and it would look quirky to any sierra connessure, but that extra tyre room "could" make it worthwhile..
p.s. 33's on a swb shouldn't be "that" scary... maybe there are some other issues to consider (i.e. overall height / travel / width etc).

from what i understand the lwb is approx 12" longer than a swb?

i'm keen to swap to a NT chassis either way, so i was toying with the idea of stretching at the same time..
maybe its best just to stick with the nt chassis and just move the diffe either way.

I think it's too much work for no outcome. 100" is about the right number for climbing and that's 8" longer than a stock LWB. My LWB is currently 2.5" over stock, I'm building a 98.5" WB car, and I have had a hand in a 100" sierra based car which climbed amazingly well.
Making a 85" wheelbased sierra just seems pointless.
